Are you ready to make the switch to raw dog food – but you can’t decide between We Feed Raw and Viva Raw?
We made the big decision to embrace a raw-fed diet almost a year ago because Skye stopped eating her fresh dog food meals, and we were worried about her health.
If you’ve got a fussy eater, we can relate to the stress. Skye is picky, and we’ve tried lots of different dog food brands, trying to find meals she would consistently eat.
But switching to raw dog food has been life-changing for Skye, Copper and us. We’ve never seen Skye show so much mealtime excitement and finish her food every time.
In this comparison article, we’re taking a look at We Feed Raw and Viva Raw, which are two of the leading raw dog food companies in the USA.
We Feed Raw Vs Viva Raw: Our Pick

So you’re ready to subscribe to a raw dog food brand, but you can’t decide between We Feed Raw and Viva Raw. We ordered from both companies to test out their food and subscription services.
Based on our experience, we recommend We Feed Raw because we found their subscription plan to be more convenient. Here’s why.
We Feed Raw sends their raw dog food in small 6-8oz pouches, depending on your dog’s meal plan. You’ll need to provide We Feed Raw with key details about your pet so they can create a custom meal plan.

In our case, Skye and Copper required a 6oz pouch a day each. So we kept two meal pouches defrosted in the fridge at all times.
It was easy to serve. We cut open the pouch and followed the feeding guidelines before placing the remaining raw food in the meal pouch back in the container that We Feed Raw sent with your first order.
Viva Raw’s food is sent in bigger packaging, which meant it was more work to figure out the correct portions, there was more leftover raw food to keep in the fridge, and they didn’t send a container with our order.

We paid $272.72 for Copper and Skye’s We Feed Raw meals, which is a premium price. However, Skye loved their raw dog food and licked her bowl clean every mealtime. This is a rare occurrence!
Viva Raw was slightly cheaper than We Feed Raw. They charged us $266 for a month’s supply of raw dog food, but they asked fewer questions in their sign-up questionnaire, so it felt less tailored to our dogs.

It’s worth noting We Feed Raw offer their beef and chicken recipes in a freeze-dried format if you’d prefer to stick with dry dog food rather than raw food.
That’s why we stuck with We Feed Raw in the long run – and continue to feed their meals to Copper and Skye with great success.
We Feed Raw

We wanted to share some more information about We Feed Raw if you’re considering We Feed Raw as a potential option for you and your pup.
They don’t use any fillers, nasties or preservatives in their raw dog food, which was important to us. We Feed Raw uses meat that is humanely raised and sourced.
We had peace of mind knowing that the raw dog food company utilized a PhD nutritionist to formulate their six recipes.

We Feed Raw offers six recipes, which really appealed to us, considering we’ve got a picky eater. They have beef, chicken, duck, lamb, turkey and venison.
We love that We Feed Raw uses individual meal pouches, which means minimal fuss and mess. We kept two meal pouches defrosted in the fridge and the rest in the freezer.
It was easy to follow the feeding guidelines because Copper and Skye require one meal pouch each day. We thought raw feeding would be tricky or require too much effort, but it wasn’t.

We Feed Raw is expensive, but we’ve seen so many benefits. Firstly, Skye always finishes her food now (other Klee Kai owners who have tried the brand on our recommendation have also told us that We Feed Raw transformed their dog from a picky eater to an obsessive eater!).
As I mentioned above, We Feed Raw has two freeze-dried raw recipes if you’d like to try the brand but don’t want the hassle of raw food.
Copper and Skye had much more regular bowel movements and significantly smaller stools. Their poop size has reduced considerably, which was an unexpected benefit to embracing their meals.
Viva Raw

We’ve given a detailed insight into We Feed Raw, so it’s only fair that we do the same for Viva Raw.
They’re one of the other most-respected dog food companies in the raw space, so we didn’t hesitate to place an order through their website.
Similar to We Feed Raw, Viva Raw sources humanely raised, human-grade, USDA-inspected meat to feed their customer base.
They offer personalized meal plans, but we found their sign-up questionnaire to be less detailed than those of other questionnaires we’ve completed with different dog food subscription companies.

Viva Raw match We Feed Raw with regards to menu selection. They offer six recipes: beef, chicken, duck, rabbit, turkey and beef & turkey. So there’s a good range of protein options.
When we received our first Viva Raw order, the meals came in significantly bigger meal pouches. This meant it was more hassle figuring out the correct portion size and storing half-opened meal packets.
Viva Raw came in slightly cheaper than We Feed Raw ($6.72 a month). We decided it was worth paying a little more for the convenience of having smaller meal pouches and more straightforward portioning, but you might prefer to save money.
Wrapping Up

So, there we have it; we’ve reached the end of our ‘We Feed Raw vs. Viva Raw’ comparison article.
Our pick would be We Feed Raw because Skye and Copper loved their recipes, they were gentle on the digestive system, and we found their meal pouches convenient to use.
They’ve had such a significant impact on our Klee Kai dogs that we can’t imagine a world without feeding them raw dog food meals.
Viva Raw is also a good choice if you’re ready to switch to a raw-fed diet, but our preference was We Feed Raw.
