In my case, We Feed Raw worked out cheaper, offers more variety, and is formulated by PhD-level nutritionists, which gave me more confidence in what I was feeding. Most importantly, my Klee Kai didn’t just like it, they’ve consistently finished every meal for 18 months, which I’ve never had with any other brand. Freeze-dried raw appealed to me as a dog owner because it’s cheaper than most fresh dog food brands and a raw dog food subscription.

I’ll get straight to the point for dog owners who want me to cut to the chase. We recommend We Feed Raw. Here’s why.
Full disclosure: We currently feed We Feed Raw in its raw-food format, alongside their freeze-dried raw food. Skye loves We Feed Raw!
We were stuck in a cycle of Skye trying new food, rejecting it after a few weeks, stressful trips to the emergency vet, and mounting bills.
But she’s been consistently eating We Feed Raw since we switched to their range over 18 months ago. Her appetite is unrecognised from the picky eater before.
While my Klee Kai liked Tally’s Ranch, their enthusiasm for We Feed Raw was unmatched. We’ve also seen benefits such as coat health, firmer stools and less tear stains.
My Klee Kai’s Tally’s Ranch subscription costs $219 a month, and their We Feed Raw subscription costs $202 a month. That’s a difference of $17 a month and $204 a year.
Tally’s Ranch and We Feed Raw both offer two recipes: chicken and beef. Neither provides a custom scooper, which I’d like to see in the future. But both are shelf stable.
While Alaskan Klee Kai dogs happily ate Tally’s Ranch, whether it was their beef or chicken recipe, I felt I had to recommend We Feed Raw because my dogs are obsessed.
Who Is We Feed Raw?
We Feed Raw is a versatile dog food company that provides raw and freeze-dried meals to cater to the different preferences of pups.
They only use USDA-approved meat in their recipes, and a PhD animal nutritionist has formulated their range, so you can have peace of mind as a pet owner.
We Feed Raw boasts one of the best ranges of any dog food brand that we’ve reviewed since returning to California from London over two years ago. They offer five raw recipes and two freeze-dried recipes.
When we first encountered We Feed Raw, they only offered raw dog food. But they expanded their range in 2025 to include beef and chicken freeze-dried raw meals.
I’m grateful to We Feed Raw for resolving Skye’s fussiness at mealtime, thanks to their raw food, and my female Klee Kai enjoys their dry food range, too.
Typically, we’ll use raw and freeze-dried together to give Copper and Skye different textures in their bowl. We’ve found this works really well with our Klee Kai.
We Feed Raw does provide a scooper, but it isn’t customized, which means you’ll need to follow their portion guidelines. This is my only gripe with their service.
There is a big price difference between their raw food and freeze-dried raw food. The latter works out to around $78 cheaper per dog each month. That’s a huge saving.

Who Is Tally’s Ranch?
Tally’s Ranch is a new player in the dog food marketplace, having launched in 2025. Their founder, Michael, is a former employee of The Farmer’s Dog.
They offer two recipes: beef and chicken. You don’t have as much choice, but I’ve found these two protein sources to be the most popular with my dogs.
I did notice when updating this article in April 2026 that they now offer two air-dried recipes. However, we haven’t tested those out yet, so I haven’t added them into the equation.
Their website claims they’re the only brand in the USA to disclose the percentage of meat in their recipes; it currently stands at 70%. I did a quick check of We Feed Raw bag and their ingredients label does display 85% meat.
Just like We Feed Raw, Tally’s Ranch requires dog owners to complete a sign-up questionnaire to get started with their pet food subscription.

Currently, Tally’s Ranch offers a gold scoop so you don’t have to worry about utensils at mealtime. However, it isn’t a custom scooper.
Copper and Skye transitioned well to Tally’s Ranch during our trial of their freeze-dried food, despite my female Klee Kai pup being a picky eater.
Tally’s Ranch passed the taste test, although their freeze-dried raw food was slightly more expensive than We Feed Raw. Nevertheless, it’s a good option.

I’d recommend We Feed Raw over Tally’s Ranch because it was a huge hit with my Klee Kai dogs, and they’ve consistently finished their portions over the past 18 months.
Based on my experience, We Feed Raw is the better option for fussy dogs. It transformed my Alaskan Klee Kai dog Skye from fussy to food motivated. She’s been devouring their food for over a year and a half.
We Feed Raw was $17 cheaper per month than Tally’s Ranch when I compared the prices of both brands’ freeze-dried raw food.
I consider freeze-dried raw a good choice if you want to ditch kibble but aren’t ready to commit to raw dog food yet. It’s cheaper than fresh dog food, as highlighted when I compared The Farmer’s Dog to Tally’s Ranch.
