Have you been weighing up whether to give Badlands Ranch a try?
We had been feeding Sundays For Dogs for almost a year when I learned about Badlands Ranch, and I wasted no time placing an order to test out their recipes on Skye and Copper.
Having placed multiple Badlands Ranch orders and tested them on Copper and Skye since 2023, it’s clear they offer high-quality recipes with high meat content and treat-like texture.
But there’s a slight lack of customization, and their air-dried food can be expensive.
In this review, I’ll share my honest experience feeding Badlands Ranch to my two Klee Kai dogs over multiple years, including pros, cons, pricing, and whether it’s worth it compared to Sundays.
Quick note: After testing both brands, we ultimately switched back to Sundays For Dogs for better customization and overall fit for our dogs. I’ll explain exactly why below.
Badlands Ranch Pros
Human-grade ingredients

The first thing I look for when reviewing dog food is whether the ingredients are human-grade. Badlands Ranch uses USDA-quality meat and high-quality ingredients, so it meets my criteria.
My Alaskan Klee Kai dogs have sensitive tummies, so it’s important to find a dog food brand that only uses natural ingredients.
Their Superfood Air-Dried and Superfood Nuggets range was gentle on Copper and Skye’s tummies throughout the month-long duration using Badlands Ranch. So I had peace of mind Copper and Skye were eating high-quality air-dried dog food.
Superfoods
I was drawn to Badlands Ranch because of the superfood angle. Their recipes are formulated to support skin and coat health, digestion, immune function, and energy.
Admittedly, I’m not a dog nutritionist nor a vet, but it’s great that Badlands Ranch claims to offer support across these areas.
They’ve published full ingredient lists and AAFCO-compliant recipes, which is important to me when evaluating dog food.
Copper and Skye had no digestive issues during our food testing. It was hard to detect any noticeable change in skin health or immune function. But their energy levels were sprightly!
Overall, I liked the Superfood element to their dog food delivery service. It’s something that I haven’t encountered with a lot of other dog food brands during my search to find the best dog food for Copper and Skye.
Gently cooked

If you’re a regular reader of our website, you’ll know that gently-cooked recipes always appeal to me, seeing as Skye suffers from a sensitive tummy.
Badlands Ranch gently air-dries their recipes to lock in nutritional goodness and natural flavor. Copper and Skye like this pet food format, seeing as we’ve fed Sundays for some time.
We tested Badlands Ranch on my Alaskan Klee Kai, and I’m pleased to report there were no issues. Their tummies took to their air-dried food, and their stools were a consistent shape and size.
Convenient
If you’re a long-term follower or subscriber, you’ll likely know that Skye can be a fussy eater. So I’ve typically stuck with fresh dog food meals such as The Farmer’s Dog or raw food like We Feed Raw.
But Badlands Ranch is so much more convenient than fresh dog food. I didn’t have to worry about making room in my freezer to store food or defrost meals in the fridge. Instead, you open the bag, pour it into your dog’s bowl, reseal it, and pop it back into the cupboard.
The simplicity appeals to me as a business owner and parent who doesn’t have enough minutes in the day!
Treat-like texture and high meat content
Badlands Ranch offers air-dried food and nuggets. I would recommend their air-dried food if you’ve got a picky eater like my dog Skye. It’s got a treat-like texture which excited her.
Every time I took the bag out of the cupboard, I was reminded that their recipes contain 87% meat (thanks to the front-of-bag packaging!).
This is higher than the fresh dog food brands I’ve reviewed, whose recipes typically contain 40-60% meat. You get value for your dollar with Badlands Ranch.
(It’s worth noting Sundays claim to have 90% meat content in their recipes!)
Picky Eater approved
My Alaskan Klee Kai dogs were happy to eat Badlands Ranch so their air-dried food and nuggets are picky eater approved.
I suspect they liked Badlands Ranch because it’s similar in texture to Sundays For Dogs, which I’d been feeding them for some time.
Skye’s favorite recipe was beef and she consistently finished her Badlands Ranch food during the initial 30 days and whenever we’ve reordered to update this review.
Copper was happy with their full menu of options.
Badlands Ranch Cons
Premium price

If you’re ready to sign up for Badlands Ranch, it’s worth noting that their air-dried food and nuggets will cost more than regular traditional dog food, such as store-bought kibble.
This is something I always mention when it comes to fresh dog food services.
However, I’ve noticed that you can purchase Badlands Ranch on Amazon Prime. This wasn’t the case when I originally reviewed their recipes.
I’d recommend purchasing an individual bag on Amazon first before deciding to sign up to a subscription to see how your pet takes to their food.
More expensive than other air-dried dog food
I paid $170.85 for a month’s worth of Badlands Ranch for Copper and Skye. This is quite reasonable for a dog food delivery service at $2.84 a day per dog.
However, it costs me $139.98 a month to order Sundays for my Klee Kai. That’s $2.33 a day per dog. This is a saving of nearly $31 a month and $372 a year.
As I mentioned above, you can order on Amazon, where Badlands Ranch charges $42.99 for a 24-oz bag. You do get the benefit of same-day delivery if you’re a Prime member.
Small bag
Badlands Ranch uses relatively small bags for their air-dried food and their nuggets. I found 24oz didn’t last me long with my two Alaskan Klee Kai dogs.
This is something to consider when assessing the price and quantity that you’re purchasing.
Lack of customization
You don’t get the opportunity to enter your dog’s details when you sign up at Badlands Ranch.
There’s less customization than at other pet food companies I’ve reviewed.
This might not bother some pet parents who want a quick sign-up process with minimal friction.
But it’s an important feature to me as someone who has reviewed over 30 brands.
Is Badlands Ranch Worth It?

Badlands Ranch is worth the cost if you have a picky eater but don’t want to break the bank for fresh or raw dog food.
But you may want to consider another dry dog food brand if you value customization or you want a lower monthly cost.
They tick a lot of the boxes that I look for when reviewing and testing a dog food delivery service. They use human-grade ingredients, gently cooking their recipes, and high meat content.
However, Badlands Ranch doesn’t offer as much customization as other dry dog food brands that I’ve previously reviewed. This is something to keep in mind.
Badlands Ranch is one of the pricier brands I’ve reviewed in the air-dried dog food category.
Although I don’t think fellow pet owners will go wrong by ordering Badlands Ranch, I believe Sundays For Dogs represents a more versatile air-dried dog food option.
Sundays offer more customization, a lower price, and have proven a bigger hit with my dogs. You can learn more about the differences between Badlands Ranch and Sundays here.
How We Tested Badlands Ranch

We’ve placed several orders of Badlands Ranch since its launch in 2023. We placed an order shortly after discovering their air-dried food and tested it on Copper and Skye for a month.
My Alaskan Klee Kai dogs showed a lot of mealtime excitement in the initial weeks. Badlands Ranch has a chunky, treat texture that appeals to my mini huskies.
We kept feeding Badlands Ranch as their main meal until we finished the bag. Copper and Skye continued to enjoy their recipes throughout our trial period.
There was no pickiness, no upset tummies, small stools and good energy.
I’ve placed subsequent orders in 2024 and 2025 to keep this review up to date. My Klee Kai dogs were more than happy to continue eating it.
We tested their Superfood Nuggets when they were launched, but Skye preferred the air-dried food over the Nuggets. I ended up using the Nuggets more sparingly as a topper.

A Day in the Life Feeding Badlands Ranch
It’s straightforward to feed Badlands Ranch. You open the bag, take a scoop and pour it into your dog’s bowl. When you’re done, reseal the bag and place it in a cool, dry space.
I loved the convenience of Badlands Ranch and all air-dried dog food. If you’ve got a family, you’ll know space is at a premium in the kitchen, especially the fridge and freezer.
We used Badlands Ranch as treats for our walks. However, their Nuggets aren’t suitable for this. They’re quite crumbly.
We repeated the same steps as above for dinner. There’s never a mess because it’s air-dried dog food.

Conclusion

We’ve come to the end of our Badlands Ranch review.
I believe Badlands Ranch is a good option for pet owners who want to switch to air-dried food and care about their pup eating high-quality ingredients.
They’ve got a great range of recipes, offer two pet food formats, and include superfoods. These are all advantages of Badlands Ranch.
However, they’re more expensive than some similar dry dog food brands. Badlands Ranch doesn’t offer the same customization or personalization as other dog food subscription companies.
If you want to try air-dried food but you don’t want the commitment of a subscription, Badlands Ranch is a solid choice. But for long-term value and customization, Sundays remains my pick.
