Are you ready to switch to air-dried dog food, but you can’t decide between Sundays For Dogs and Badlands Ranch?
I’ve been feeding air-dried dog food to my Alaskan Klee Kai Copper and Skye, ditching store-bought kibble in favor of a complete and balanced diet for my mini huskies.
There’s no shortage of potential air-dried dog food to try alongside other healthy pet food formats, such as fresh dog food meals, freeze-dried dog food, and raw dog food.
I know trying to figure out the best option for my Klee Kai was overwhelming, considering there are so many human-grade dog food companies on the market.
I’ve made it my mission to try the different dry dog food brands currently available in the USA to see which offers the best balanced and complete diet for Copper and Skye.
While I care about the healthy ingredients used in the pet food, it’s just as important that Copper and Skye are happy to eat their air-dried dog food and finish their meals.
In this comparison dog food review, I’ll discuss Sundays For Dogs and Badlands Ranch to see which of these two air-dried dog foods is my favorite.

Who Is Sundays For Dogs?
Sundays For Dogs offers air-dried dog food to pet owners who want to feed dry dog food but adopt a healthier approach using human-grade ingredients.
Sundays use an air-drying process where their human-grade dog food is gently dried to protect the nutritional integrity and lock in the flavor of their air-dried food.
Created by vets, it’s no surprise that Sundays For Dogs only uses natural ingredients in its recipes. You won’t find any additives or preservatives in their dehydrated dog food.
Sundays offer a subscription service for their air-dried dog food, and they’ll tailor your dog’s meals according to the details that you provide in their sign-up questionnaire.
I found the process to be thorough. I shared details about Copper and Skye, such as age, breed, activity level, and dog food diet, and disclosed any health issues.
Once I completed their questionnaire, Sundays For Dogs suggested an air-dried dog food recipe. Note: You can still select the protein source you prefer.
Sundays offers beef, chicken and turkey recipes, which is a good selection for dog owners with fussy eaters like my Alaskan Klee Kai dogs.
Once I finished the sign-up process, Sundays shared my monthly price (more on that to come) and delivered Copper and Skye’s meals to my door.
Did Copper And Skye Like Sundays?
We returned to California from the UK in 2023, and I started searching for the best human-grade dog food in the USA for Copper and Skye. I gave Sundays a try.
I was worried they wouldn’t enjoy an air-dried dog food diet because they’ve previously shown muted interest in traditional kibble.
However, Copper and Skye loved their air-dried dog food meals (much to my surprise)—mealtime was exciting, and there were clean bowls every day.
Sundays’ air-dried food has a treat-like texture, which I think helped to convince Copper and Skye to try it initially.
Sundays’ dog food has a high meat content (90% meat), providing ample flavor to keep even my picky eater, Skye, motivated to finish her meals.
Copper and Skye preferred the beef and chicken recipes, but the turkey recipe wasn’t such a hit with my Klee Kai. So, if you’re ready to sign up, maybe start with beef or chicken!
Who Are Badlands Ranch?
Badlands Ranch is a new air-dried dog food company that has created a range of Superfood Complete recipes to challenge the likes of Sunday and other dog food brands.
It’s worth pointing out that Badlands Ranch is a dog food company created by actress Katherine Heigl, who has multiple dogs.
Badlands Ranch dog food is air dried, so they use an air drying method to ensure maximum freshness and nutritional value (according to their website).
Unlike traditional cooking methods for dry dog food such as kibble, Badlands Ranch dog food isn’t cooked at harsh, high temperatures.
As you’d expect from a dog food brand with a range called Superfood Complete, Badlands Ranch has created its recipes using premium, nutritious meat and healthy fruit and vegetables.
Just like Sundays, you won’t find any meat meal, byproduct, or preservatives in their air-dried food.
Badlands Ranch doesn’t require pet parents to fill out a sign-up questionnaire, so dog owners should pay attention to the air-dried dog food brand’s feeding guidelines.
Did Copper and Skye like Badlands Ranch?
I was pretty confident that Copper and Skye would enjoy Badlands Ranch, considering its treat-like texture is similar to Sundays For Dogs, just a bit chunkier.
Copper and Skye were happy to eat Badlands Ranch without any hesitation. My fussy eaters particularly enjoyed the beef recipe.
If you’ve got a picky dog like me, you might be disappointed to learn Badlands Ranch only offers two recipes. I’d like to see more added to their menu!
I did find the Badlands Ranch dog food bags arrived squished. It may be a small detail, but the bag didn’t hold its structure, so I had to lie it flat in the cupboard.
Badlands Ranch didn’t send any extra material or put together a welcome package in my first box, which most dog food delivery companies tend to do.
A 680g bag of Badlands Ranch costs $59.99, which I felt was quite pricey compared to other air-dried dog food brands. You can save money if you buy multiple bags.
