Are you thinking about making the switch to air dried dog food but you can’t decide between Sundays For Dogs and Badlands Ranch?
I’ve been feeding air dried dog food to my Alaskan Klee Kai Copper and Skye over the past few months, having ditched store-bought kibble in favour of a complete and balanced diet for my mini huskies.
There’s no shortage of potential air dried dog food to try alongside other healthy pet food formats such as fresh dog food meals, freeze dried dog food and raw dog food.
While having the ability to adopt a fresh approach to your dog’s diet using human grade ingredients is great, it can also be overwhelming trying to figure out the best option for your pup.
I’ve made it my mission to try the different dry dog food brands currently available in the USA to see which brand offers the best balanced and complete diet for Copper and Skye.
While I care about the healthy ingredients used in the pet food, it’s also important that Copper and Skye are happy to eat their air dried dog food and finish their meals.
In this comparison dog food review, I’m going to be taking a look at Sundays For Dogs and Badlands Ranch to see which of these two air dried dog foods is our favourite.
Who Are Sundays For Dogs?
Sundays For Dogs offer a range of air dried dog food to cater to pet owners who want to feed dry dog food but adopt a healthier approach using human grade ingredients.
Sundays use an air drying process where their human grade dog food is gently dried at 160 degrees Fahrenheit to protect the nutritional integrity and lock in the flavour of their air dried food.
Having been created by veterinarians, it’s no surprise that Sundays For Dogs only use natural ingredients in their recipes. You won’t find any additives or preservatives in their dehydrated dog food.
Sundays offer a subscription service for their air dried dog food where they’ll tailor your dog’s meals according to the details that pet parents provide in their sign-up questionnaire.
This process is thorough – you’ll be sharing details about your dog such as age, breed, activity level, dog food diet and disclose any health issues.
Once you’ve completed their questionnaire, Sundays For Dogs will suggest an air dried dog food recipe but you can still select the protein source you prefer.
Sundays offer a beef recipe, chicken recipe and turkey recipe, which is a good selection for dog owners who have a fussy eater.
Once you’ve completed signing up for their air dried dog food, Sundays will give you a monthly price and deliver your meals to your door.
Did Copper And Skye Like Sundays?
When we returned to California from the UK in 2023, I started my search for the best dog food in the USA to ensure Copper and Skye were eating a balanced and complete diet made with whole food ingredients.
Sundays was one of the first dog food brands that I decided to feed to Copper and Skye in the USA.
I was worried that they wouldn’t enjoy an air dried dog food diet because they’ve previously shown muted interest in traditional kibble.
However, Copper and Skye loved their air dried dog food meals (much to my surprise) – there was mealtime excitement and clean bowls every day.
Sundays’ air dried food has a treat-like texture which I think helped to convince Copper and Skye to give it a try initially.
They’ve got a high meat content (90% meat) which provided ample flavor to keep even my picky eater Skye motivated to finish her meals.
Copper and Skye much preferred the beef recipe and chicken recipe, but the turkey recipe wasn’t such a hit with my Klee Kai.
So if you’re ready to sign up to receive their air dried dog food, maybe start with beef or chicken!
Who Are Badlands Ranch?
Badlands Ranch are a new air dried dog food company who have created a range of Superfood Complete recipes to challenge the likes of Sunday and other dog food brands.
It’s worthing pointing out that Badlands Ranch is a dog food company created by actress Katherine Heigl, who has multiple dogs.
Badlands Ranch dog food is air dried – they employ a slow cooking and air drying method to ensure maximum freshness and nutritional value.
Unlike traditional cooking methods for dry dog food such as kibble, Badlands Ranch dog food isn’t cooked at harsh, high tempeatures.
As you’d expect from a dog food brand with a range called Superfood Complete, Badlands Ranch have created their recipes using premium nutritious meat and healthy fruit and vegetables.
Just like Sundays, you won’t find any meat meal, byproduct, or preservatives in their air dried food.
Badlands Ranch don’t require pet parents to fill out a sign-up questionnaire, so dog owners will need to pay attention to the air dried dog food brand’s feeding guidelines.
Each Badlands Ranch air dried dog food bag is 680g – and you can buy multiple bags in your purchase depending on your dog’s appetite and feeding requirements.
Did Copper and Skye like Badlands Ranch?
I was pretty confident that Copper and Skye would enjoy Badlands Ranch considering it has a treat-like texture similar to Sundays For Dogs, just a bit chunkier.
I felt confident giving Badlands Ranch dog food to Copper and Skye having read through the ingredients and taking a look at the air dried dog food close up.
Copper and Skye were happy to eat Badlands Ranch without any hesitation.
I did find the Badlands Ranch dog food bags arrived quite squished, which was a bit worrying. It may be a small detail but the bag didn’t hold its structure so I had to lie it flat in the cupboard.
I wanted to try both Badlands Ranch air dried dog food recipes – beef and chicken.
A 680g bag of Badlands Ranch costs $59.99, which I felt was quite pricey when compared to other air dried dog food brands. If you buy multiple bags of Badlands Ranch, you can make a saving.
