Do you have a picky eater, and you want to find the best dry dog food brands to keep your fussy pup food motivated?
I’ve got two Alaskan Klee Kai dogs who can be extremely fussy when it comes to mealtime, which has resulted in a lot of stress and worry over the years.
However, we have found some dog food brands that Copper and Skye will eat that don’t break the bank and don’t take up freezer space like fresh or raw meals.
In this article, I’m going to share the best dry dog food for picky eaters based on my experience testing different pet food brands on my Alaskan Klee Kai dogs.
Sundays Food For Dogs
My first choice is Sundays Food For Dogs. My Alaskan Klee Kai dogs enjoyed eating their air-dried dog food. Sundays use human-grade ingredients that are cooked at low temperatures to lock in flavor and nutritional integrity. Sundays offer three vet-formulated recipes: beef, chicken and turkey. Copper and Skye’s favorite was beef! Sunday has a high meat content (90% meat) and a treat-like texture. I believe that helped get my Klee Kai excited about Sundays. We pay just under $140 a month for Sundays.
UnKibble
If you’re feeding your dog a traditional kibble brand but you want to sign up for a custom dry food plan, UnKibble could be a good option. Spot & Tango created UnKibble to meet the needs of dog owners who didn’t want the hassle of feeding their fresh food meals. There are four UnKibble recipes, and they all use human-grade food in limited-ingredient recipes. Spot & Tango uses transparent labeling. The biggest plus point from a dog owner’s point of view is the custom scooper. It allowed me to get Skye and Copper’s portions right.
A Pup Above
A Pup Above offers Whole Food Cubies, which my dogs were happy eating. A Pup Above started by offering fresh dog food cooked using the sous-vide method. However, they decided to launch a dry food range to cater to pet owners who prefer this format. Their Whole Food Cubies use the same ingredients and same gentle cooking methods as their fresh food. So you still get all the benefits, flavor and mealtime excitement! The Whole Food Cubies contain 70% animal protein, which helps keep my dogs excited at mealtime.
Badlands Ranch
Badlands Ranch is another example of an air-dried dog food brand. They use human-grade ingredients and superfoods in their recipes. Badlands Ranch have some great recipe options, including Venison. Badlands Ranch doesn’t offer as much customization as Sundays Food For Dogs or UnKibble. Having said that, Copper and Skye liked their air-dried recipes. Badlands Ranch has a treat-like texture, which allowed me to use their food throughout the day for training and for scentwork games.
The Honest Kitchen
The Honest Kitchen is a versatile dog food company. I’ve included The Honest Kitchen to cater to dog owners who want to mix and match pet food formats. The Honest Kitchen offers Clusters Dry Food, Dehydrated Dog Food, and Wet Food. So, if you want to pair wet food with some dry food, The Honest Kitchen could be a good choice. We fed their Dehydrated Dog Food, which required us to mix air-dried food with water to create Copper and Skye’s meals.
Wrapping Up
We’ve reached the end of our best dry dog food for picky eaters.
I’ve shared my best picks based on trying different dry dog foods on my fussy Alaskan Klee Kai dogs, Copper and Skye.
I’d recommend starting with Sundays but I believe all five brands in this article are capable of keeping fussy eaters food motivated at dinner time.
