Tally’s Ranch Vs UnKibble: What’s The Difference?

Tally's Ranch vs UnKibble What's The Difference

Last Updated on May 6, 2025 by Kieran Beckles

So you want to switch dog food, but you can’t decide between Tally’s Ranch and UnKibble.

It’s hard to decide which pet food brand is best for your canine companion when there are so many similar options online and in-store.

Long-term readers and subscribers will know that we believe in feeding human-grade dog food to Copper and Skye, tailored to meet their specific needs.

We were recently presented with the opportunity to try Tally’s Ranch (you can read my review here). Their food reminded us a lot of UnKibble.

In this article, I’m going to share the key differences between Tally’s Ranch and UnKibble to help pet owners who can’t decide between these two dry dog food brands.

Tally’s Ranch vs UnKibble: Our Recommendation

I don’t want to waste your time, so I’m going to share my pick between these dry dog food companies. I’d recommend UnKibble.

It’s a hard decision but I believe Spot and Tango offer a more rounded dog food subscription service at the current time. I will be revisiting my verdict once Tally’s Ranch is more established and adds to its recipe range.

I like that Spot and Tango offers four dry food recipes so I can vary Skye’s meals. She’s my picky eater, and I find she easily gets bored when I feed her the same recipes over and over.

They offer a customized meal plan, which results in a scooper that is designed with your dog’s daily dietary requirements in mind. Spot and Tango follow through with the personalized element of their business.

Tally's Ranch vs UnKibble My Pick

Spot and Tango cost $140 a month to feed to my Alaskan Klee Kai dogs. Tally’s Ranch, on the other hand, quoted $171.60 a month. That’s a price difference of $31.60 a month (or $379.20 a year).

If you’ve been reading my reviews over the past year or so, you’ll know we predominantly feed raw food with dry food as a topper.

I like that Tally’s Ranch uses a freeze-dried method to give dog owners a chance to allow their dogs to enjoy the benefits of raw without the hassle. UnKibble is made by gently drying Spot & Tango’s recipes. So there are two different methods to consider.

I don’t think you’ll go wrong with Tally’s Ranch, and it’s a great choice. But at the current time, I would recommend UnKibble due to its more established business.

Tally’s Ranch

Tally’s Ranch is a relatively new operator in the dog food space, providing pet owners with the opportunity to try their freeze-dried raw dog food range.

They offer two recipes: beef and chicken. Tally’s Ranch’s dry food contains 70% USDA-sourced meat, with the rest of their nuggets comprised of vegetables, oils and minerals.

Tally’s Ranch cooks their recipes using a freeze-drying process to preserve all the nutritional goodness of the ingredients in their recipes. This ensures their pet food remains shelf stable. You won’t have to make space in your fridge or freezer!

While pet owners are required to complete a sign-up questionnaire, you won’t get a custom scooper. Tally’s Ranch provides a stylish golden scooper, but it isn’t customized to meet your dog’s daily needs. Instead, you’ll need to follow their feeding guidelines.

Copper and Skye enjoyed eating Tally’s Ranch throughout our trial period with their freeze-dried food. Even Skye would finish all her meals. This was a good sign as she’s the pickier of my two Alaskan Klee Kai dogs.

Tally’s Ranch is more expensive than two of the big names in the dry dog food market: Sundays For Dogs and UnKibble. But Tally’s Ranch is cheaper than some other dry food options such as Ollie, The Pets Table and Open Farm.

I believe Tally’s Ranch provides good service, with tasty food approved by my picky eater, and is worth a try if you’re interested in the freeze-dried format and the potential benefits.

UnKibble

Spot and Tango are a well-established pet food company that offers a fresh frozen range and a dry food range. For this comparison article, we’re taking a look at UnKibble.

We’ve previously fed UnKibble to Copper and Skye with success. My Alaskan Klee Kai dogs liked all the UnKibble recipes, but their favorite was the beef and barley.

UnKibble uses a gentle air-drying process to create their dry food range, using human-grade meat, fruit and vegetables. Like Tally’s Ranch, you won’t find any additives, fillers or nasties in their recipes.

From a dog owner’s perspective, I appreciate that Spot and Tango use clear and simple labeling to avoid any confusion. It’s a transparent approach that built my trust.

UnKibble provides a custom scooper, which makes feeding time easy because it is as simple as scooping and serving direct into their bowl. I love the convenience of this.

My UnKibble subscription costs $140 a month for Copper and Skye, which makes their pet food service affordable compared to fresh dog food and raw dog food.

Wrapping Up

Tally's Ranch vs UnKibble Conclusion

We’ve reached the end of my comparison article. My recommendation would be UnKibble.

UnKibble provides a more thorough service with more recipes, a custom scooper and tailored meal plans at a competitive price.

However, Tally’s Ranch is worth a try if you’ve already tried UnKibble in the past and you’re looking for something new. Perhaps you’ve always wanted to try raw dog food for your pup, but you don’t like the hassle. Tally’s Ranch’s freeze-dried food could be a great alternative.

While I don’t think you’ll go wrong with Tally’s Ranch, I would have to give UnKibble the slight edge due to its superior experience.
