7 Best Fresh Dog Foods for Sensitive Stomachs (Tested on Our Mini Huskies)

Best Fresh Dog Food For Sensitive Stomachs

Last Updated on April 15, 2026 by Kieran Beckles

Do you have a dog with a sensitive stomach, and you’ve struggled to find a fresh dog food brand that supports your pup’s digestive system?

Best Fresh Dog Food Quick Verdict
The Farmer's Dog Food
If you’re dealing with a sensitive stomach like we had to face with our Klee Kai Skye, fresh dog food can make a real difference.

Having reviewed seven fresh dog food brands for this article, The Farmer’s Dog stands out as the best overall option thanks to its gently cooked meals and tailored portioning, which are designed around your dog’s specific needs and sensitivities.

Skye enjoyed eating her Farmer’s Dog meals and I appreciate that the brand tailored her meals to meet her specific needs as a fussy eater with a sensitive tummy.

That said, other brands like Ollie, Nom Nom, and The Pets Table can still be good alternatives depending on your dog, especially if you need more variety or are targeting specific sensitivities.

Final Verdict:
I recommend The Farmer’s Dog because we had a great experience feeding their fresh dog food to our Alaskan Klee Kai dogs. They’re the cheapest fresh dog food brand that we’ve reviewed.

We’ve been testing and reviewing dog food delivery companies for the past seven years in the US (and previously the UK) to finally find pet food our Alaskan Klee Kai loves.

Our female mini husky, Skye, has a sensitive stomach and has struggled with severe fussiness at mealtime. We’ve spent many worrisome nights at the emergency vet because she’s baying or vomiting bile.

However, we have managed to find some fresh dog food brands that Skye consistently eats, and her tummy is able to digest without any issues.

While we don’t currently feed Copper and Skye fresh, long-term Life With Klee Kai followers and readers will know that we used to rely exclusively on a fresh dog food subscription.

UPDATED: April 2026
We updated this review in April 2026 to reflect the latest pricing and recipes of all the fresh dog food brands featured in this article after we retested them over a 30-day period. We also added a quick verdict and two tables for help pet owners. As always, this article follows our dog food testing process to ensure accurate, honest, and experience-based recommendations.

Best Overall: The Farmer’s Dog

The Farmer's Dog

If you’re ready to start your fresh dog food journey, we’d recommend beginning with The Farmer’s Dog. We’ve tried 10-20 fresh dog food brands on our Alaskan Klee Kai dogs and The Farmer’s Dog won for passing the taste test with my fussy mini huskies. We were also impressed with their level of service as customers.

The Farmer’s Dog uses human-grade ingredients in its recipes, and pet owners can choose from beef, chicken, pork, and turkey. You start by filling out a questionnaire so The Farmer’s Dog can customize your pup’s meals. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive your dog’s food promptly. Their meal pouches are easy to store in the freezer and they now provide a meal container to keep defrosted packets in your fridge. I liked this improvement to their service!

I was really impressed by the level of customization compared to other fresh dog food brands. The Farmer’s Dog uses individual labels if you have multiple dogs, which underlined their desire to help each dog’s weight goals. They place a handy portion guideline on the front of each meal pouch so you know exactly how much to feed at mealtime. This was a nice added touch.

Copper and Skye happily ate The Farmer’s Dog without any issues. We were impressed because Skye’s sensitive tummy had no flare-ups while we fed The Farmer’s Dog. They offer the best dollar-for-dollar fresh dog food service in the USA at the moment. We paid $251.04 a month for Copper and Skye’s meals. That’s significantly cheaper than Ollie, Nom Nom, The Pets Table and Pet Plate.

Best For Variety: Ollie Dog Food

Ollie Dog Food
Ollie Dog Food (Photo: Life With Klee Kai)

Ollie is a well-established dog food company that provides fresh and baked dog food. We’ve tried Ollie in the past, so we wanted to include them in this breakdown, particularly given their menu of recipes.

They offer beef, chicken, lamb, pork and turkey. This range allows pet owners with a picky eater to vary their pup’s meals. You can also decide to add baked recipes into the mix, thanks to Ollie’s diverse range.

Copper was a fan of Ollie, and he’d usually finish his bowl. Skye was a little more hit-and-miss. She enjoyed the beef and lamb recipes, but my female Klee Kai showed little enthusiasm for the other recipes. We didn’t stick with Ollie long-term and switched to The Farmer’s Dog.

Ollie is more expensive than The Farmer’s Dog, but is priced competitively when compared to the other dog food brands on this list. We paid $310.80 per month, which is nearly $30 more per month. That quickly adds up!

Best For High Protein: A Pup Above

A Pup Above
A Pup Above (Photo: Life With Klee Kai)

We wanted to share A Pup Above as an alternative if you’re looking to try out sous vide dog food to see if it can support your pup’s sensitive digestive system. They slowly cook their recipes to lock in all the nutritional goodness and flavor for your four-legged friend.

A Pup Above describes their chicken and turkey recipes as perfect for dogs with sensitive tummies on their website. We’ve previously tested out these two recipes, and they were a hit with our Klee Kai dogs. I was surprised by how much Skye enjoyed A Pup Above.

They use low-fat chicken and turkey that are gentle on your dog’s tummy. While they have grain in their recipes, A Pup Above has created recipes that are more digestive and contain 90% protein. This is likely why Copper and Skye were such big fans!

A Pup Above lacks some of the customization of the other fresh dog food brands, while you’ll likely need to invest in electronic scales to get your dog’s portions right. We paid $282.17 for a month’s supply of A Pup Above, which makes it a premium option. (The non-subscription price is $331.96 a month).

Best For Ethically Sourced: Open Farm

Open Farm fresh dog food

Open Farm is another great option if you’ve already tried The Farmer’s Dog and Ollie, but you’re not giving up on fresh dog food for your pet. They’re a transparent pet food company that places an emphasis on ethically sourcing their ingredients, while living by a sustainable approach.

We liked having the ability to trace ingredients from farm to bowl, especially knowing that Skye did best when eating a balanced, complete, human-grade diet. They’ve got a number of pet food formats, but their fresh recipes were the biggest hit with our Alaskan Klee Kai dogs.

They’ve got eight fresh recipes, including a “tummy rescue”, which is designed to calm your pup’s stomach if they suffered some upset recently. These are all grain-free. Open Farm has a meatball range and a Goodbowl range, which do contain grains. So you’ve got lots of options to choose from for your furry friend.

Open Farm gives pet owners flexibility, whether they want to do a one-off purchase or sign up for a fresh meal plan. We were charged just under $300 when we signed up to a meal plan for Copper and Skye to receive their fresh range. So they’re at the pricey end of the scale!

Best For Vet-Formulated Recipes: JustFoodForDogs

Just Food For Dogs
Just Food For Dogs (Photo: Life With Klee Kai)

JustFoodForDogs is a well-established dog food brand that started off with brick-and-mortar stores before expanding to online sales. We were enticed by their extensive range of recipes, and vet-formulated recipes.

We fed JustFoodForDogs for a couple of months when we moved back to California and didn’t want to commit to a dog food subscription plan. I’d pop to my local pet store and pick up some JustFoodForDogs pouches.

If you visit their website, you can select from a range of recipes that support different ailments. They’ve got lots of recipes designed for dogs with sensitive stomachs, which naturally appealed to Yasmin and I. Their Balanced Remedy recipes, specifically designed for sensitive tummies, has a rating of 4.7 on Amazon.

We like that you can purchase a seven-pack on Amazon if your dog is going through some tummy issues and you want to place a one-off order to get through an upset patch.

If you decide to order direct through their website, like we did when we signed up to test their food, it’ll cost more. We paid $312.30 a month.

Best For Gut Health: Get Joy

Get Joy fresh dog food

If you’re particularly concerned about your dog’s gut health, you may want to consider Get Joy. We had the opportunity to feed Copper and Skye their gut-friendly meals for a month. While it wasn’t a hit with my Klee Kai dogs, they do get good reviews online.

Get Joy, who also offer freeze-dried raw meals, has beef, chicken, lamb and turkey recipes. It’s a decent range of gently-cooked meals, containing probiotics to help promote gut health. It’s worth spending some time on their website, like we did, to fully understand how their ingredients help with gut health.

They’ve improved their service a lot since we first reviewed Get Joy back in 2023. Their website is much easier to use; you can get a custom meal plan or purchase a two-week supply if you don’t care about personalization.

Get Joy is expensive. They charge between $200 and $230 for a two-week supply of their gut-friendly fresh dog food. The price depends on the protein you select for your dog.

Best For Flexibility: The Pets Table

The Pets Table
The Pets Table (Photo: Life With Klee Kai)

The final brand worthy of a mention in our ultimate guide to the best fresh dog food for pups with sensitive stomachs is The Pets Table. They’re a relatively new player in the fresh dog food marketplace.

You can select from their fresh and air-dried recipes. They’ve got five fresh recipes, including pork stew with butternut squash recipe that’s been formulated for dogs with sensitive tummies. You can pair it with their beef, chicken, or salmon air-dried recipes.

Copper and Skye weren’t huge fans of The Pets Table, so we didn’t stick with them after our trial. The meal pouches have a portion guide, but it was hard to use because the packets are so flat and the fresh food so mushy.

Powered by HelloFresh, they’ve got a relatively simple sign-up process, and it’s hassle-free to cancel. We liked having this flexibility to cancel with minimal faff. We paid just under $300 for Copper and Skye’s meals. I was surprised by the cost,t considering HelloFresh is a relatively affordable service.

Fresh Dog Food For Sensitive Stomachs
Fresh Dog Food For Sensitive Stomachs (Photo: Life With Klee Kai)

So there we have it! We’ve reached the conclusion of our guide on the best fresh dog food brands for sensitive stomachs.

My recommendation would be The Farmer’s Dog because they’re a versatile fresh food brand that satisfied my picky eater, Skye, and didn’t cause any flare-ups.

They represent the best overall value of any of the fresh dog food subscriptions listed in this ultimate guide.

If you’ve already fed The Farmer’s Dog in the past with little success, I’d recommend considering A Pup Above or Open Farm.
