We Feed Raw Vs Open Farm: What’s The Difference?

We Feed Raw Vs Open Farm

Last Updated on April 28, 2025 by Kieran Beckles

Are you looking to mix up your dog’s diet, but you can’t decide whether to sign up for We Feed Raw or Open Farm?

I know firsthand how stressful it can be when you have a dog that refuses to eat their meals because they’re extremely finicky.

My female Alaskan Klee Kai dog, Skye, is extremely picky, and I spent years stressing out and trying to find pet food that she would consistently eat.

During my search for high-quality dog food that Copper and Skye would enjoy, I came across We Feed Raw and Open Farm.

In this article, I’ll share my verdict on We Feed Raw and Open Farm based on my experience ordering their food and testing it out on my Klee Kai.

Let’s get right down to business. Who do we recommend: We Feed Raw or Open Farm?

Well, it’s an easy choice for me because Copper and Skye were obsessed with We Feed Raw to a degree that I’ve never seen before with pet food.

Skye is extremely fussy, but she devoured her We Feed Raw meals twice daily without hesitation and showed mealtime excitement every time I headed to the fridge.

From the point of view of a dog owner, I loved how We Feed Raw’s meals are stored in pouches. This made it easy to rip and serve without having to fuss around with figuring out portion size.

Furthermore, We Feed Raw launched its freeze-dried range in 2025 to provide pet owners with the choice between two pet food formats for their dogs.

Open Farm offers freeze-dried raw dog food, but they don’t provide a custom scooper to help with portion control. I believe that would be a nice touch.

Ultimately, Skye and Copper had a mixed reaction to Open Farm, so we didn’t stick with the dog food brand. They have a great range of recipes, but I was looking to eliminate Skye’s fussiness at mealtime.

My recommendation is We Feed Raw, and we’ve secured an exclusive 40% discount, which our readers can take advantage of below.

Who Are We Feed Raw?

We Feed Raw is one of the leading raw dog food brands in the USA, alongside other notable brands such as Stella & Chewy’s, Darwin’s Natural Pet Products, and Maev.

We came across We Feed Raw while researching a different raw dog food company, and we decided to place an order to see if Copper and Skye liked their recipes.

We were impressed to discover that We Feed Raw sources many of its meats from free-range and grass-fed farms, which results in meat that some consider to be more nutrient-dense.

We Feed Raw’s recipes are formulated by a Phd animal nutritionist, ensuring that dogs get a balanced and complete diet when eating their raw dog food.

They offer six different protein sources: beef, chicken, duck, lamb, turkey, and venison. This really appealed to us because we could vary Copper and Skye’s meals.

Once we completed their sign-up questionnaire, We Feed Raw recommended a daily portion size for each of our Klee Kai to meet their weight goals.

Since they stored their food in 8oz packaging and both needed 8oz a day, it made it really easy to split one pouch at each mealtime.

As I mentioned above, Skye showed an incredible appetite for We Feed Raw. It was unlike anything we’ve seen before! We’ve recommended it to other Klee Kai owners who’ve experienced similar success making the switch.

The biggest disadvantage to We Feed Raw is the price. It’s expensive! We had to pay just over $250 per month for Copper and Skye’s meals.

But we believe it’s worth the cost. Having seen Skye transform from a picky eater to an enthusiastic eater, we’ve also noticed improvements in digestion, regular bowel movements, and smaller stools.

In 2025, they introduced their freeze-dried raw range, offering a more convenient option for those who prefer not to handle and store raw food. They only offer beef and chicken recipes, and the prices are comparable to their raw food options.

Who Is Open Farm?

Open Farm Pet is one of the largest pet food brands in the US, with perhaps the most extensive range of any company we have reviewed. They offer a variety of pet food formats, but we will focus on their freeze-dried raw range for this comparison article.

Their freeze-dried raw food is comprised of sustainably sourced ingredients, so you can feel confident about what you’re feeding your dog. It’s human-grade and free from additives, fillers, and other unwanted substances.

Unlike We Feed Raw, Open Farm uses a different method to prepare its pet food. Their freeze-dried recipes have the moisture removed to create dry dog food that still retains the nutritional profile of the ingredients.

I must say Open Farm does have a good recipe range to match We Feed Raw: beef, chicken, lamb, pork, surf and turf, and turkey. So there’s lots of variety for a picky eater like Skye.

Open Farm offers a feeding calculator to help you determine the amount of food your dog will need at each mealtime. But you don’t get a custom meal plan like We Feed Raw.

Open Farm does offer a better price than We Feed Raw, but you won’t get the same level of customization, and I’ve found their food to be hit-or-miss with my Alaskan Klee Kai dogs.

Wrapping Up

We’ve reached the end of our comparison article featuring We Feed Raw and Open Farm.

My pick would be We Feed Raw because Skye absolutely loved their raw dog food more than any other pet food she’s eaten before.

This alone was sufficient to turn me into a regular We Feed Raw customer on a subscription plan despite costing more than Open Farm.
