My take:

All three are fresh dog food options, but The Farmer’s Dog stands out for consistency and ease. My dogs preferred The Farmer's Dog and I preferred my experience using their service.

Well, I’m going to share my experience testing out these three dog food brands on my fussy Alaskan Klee Kai dogs, Skye and Copper.

We moved back to California from the UK in 2023, and I began our search for the best fresh dog food for my mini huskies.

We’d been feeding a fresh dog food brand in the UK that had been working pretty well for Skye, the pickier of my two Klee Kai dogs.

In this article, I’ll share which of these three dog food brands we’d recommend to other pet owners with fussy pups looking to adopt a fresh food diet.

I’ll cut to the chase and share my recommendation based on ordering and testing all three brands on my Alaskan Klee Kai dogs. It’s The Farmer’s Dog.

Having tried The Farmer’s Dog, Ollie and Nom Nom, the clear winner was The Farmer’s Dog from the perspective of my dogs and my experience as a pet owner.

Crucially, Copper and Skye preferred The Farmer’s Dog meals over the other two brands. They liked Nom Nom, too, but weren’t big fans of Ollie’s fresh food.

Is Nom Nom more expensive than The Farmer's Dog?

While Ollie offers the widest range of recipes, The Farmer’s Dog recipes appeared to satisfy my picky Klee Kai. I’d recommend beef or pork to start.

They all require dog owners to sign up using a questionnaire to provide a custom meal plan, but I felt Nom Nom and Ollie didn’t follow through.

You can also see how Nom Nom compares to The Pets Table in this comparison piece.

The Farmer’s Dog labeled Copper and Skye’s meals individually, which felt important because Skye needed to gain weight and Copper needed to lose weight.

They also had a handy portion guide on the front of each meal pouch, something which was lacking with Nom Nom and Ollie.

All three fresh dog food brands require fridge and freezer space. The Farmer’s Dog and Ollie provide meal containers – a thoughtful perk to avoid mess.

The Farmer’s Dog Vs Ollie Vs Nom Nom: Price Difference

While The Farmer’s Dog came out on top when tested on my picky eaters and convenience from the point of view of a pet owner, who comes out on top with regards to price?

My first-ever fresh dog food subscription was with Nom Nom in 2018 when a Samoyed owner at the dog park recommended giving the fresh dog food company a try to overcome Skye’s pickiness.

When I first ordered from Nom Nom, I had to pay $150. But in 2024, my subscription plan with Nom Nom rocketed to $229.46 a month. That’s a big increase!

Sit tight because when I went to update this article, my subscription cost had increased again to $291.76 a month. That’s almost double in three years!

Ollie was more expensive. I signed up to receive fresh dog food from Ollie for my Alaskan Klee Kai dogs and paid $219.60 per month in 2023. My current price is $310.

The Farmer’s Dog is the most affordable fresh dog food option I’ve reviewed. I was quoted $251.04 a month to feed my Klee Kai dogs human-grade meals.

If I signed up to The Farmer’s Dog and remained a subscriber for 12 months, I’d save over $750 compared to feeding Ollie or Nom Nom.

So there we have it. We’ve concluded our breakdown of The Farmer’s Dog vs Ollie vs Nom Nom.

My recommendation is The Farmer’s Dog over Ollie and Nom Nom, though the latter two are good options.

Skye and Copper preferred The Farmer’s Dog recipes and consistently ate their meals compared to meals from other companies.

I preferred feeding The Farmer’s Dog thanks to the great customization and handy portion guidelines on the front of the meal pouches.

There was a significant price difference, so The Farmer’s Dog is our choice for the best fresh dog food among these three brands.
