UnKibble Vs Open Farm Pet (2026): Which Dog Food Is Better?

UnKibble Vs Open Farm Pet: What's The Difference?

Last Updated on May 31, 2026 by Kieran Beckles

Are you trying to decide between UnKibble and Open Farm? I tested both on my Klee Kai dogs to compare quality, pricing, convenience and value and to see which my picky eater preferred.

UnKibble vs Open Farm Quick Verdict

Both UnKibble and Open Farm offer higher-quality nutrition than traditional kibble, but if I had to choose one, I'd personally go with UnKibble.

My dogs were more excited to eat it, the recipes contain more animal-based ingredients, and I found it offered a better balance of nutrition, convenience, and value.

That said, Open Farm is still a great choice for owners who want more recipe variety and appreciate the brand's strong commitment to ingredient sourcing and sustainability.

Overall, UnKibble was the clear winner in my household.

I’ve been on a journey to find the best dog food delivery companies in the USA that offer human grade dog food to promote a healthy diet for my Alaskan Klee Kai Skye and Copper as well as make life easier for dog owners like you and I.

UnKibble is an excellent choice if you want to combine great ingredients at a great price through a subscription plan. I appreciated the transparency of their labels, and my fussy Klee Kai dog enjoyed their fresh dry food.

Open Farm stands out for its ethical and transparent approach to its business. You can trace each ingredient from the farm to the bowl. However, it lacks some of the customization that UnKibble offers. For example, Open Farm has no custom scooper like UnKibble.

In this comparison article, I’m going to take a look at UnKibble and Open Farm Pet, how they make their dry dog food, what recipes they’ve got on offer, how their subscription plan works, and give my verdict on which is the best dog food.

UPDATED: May 2026

UnKibble Or Open Farm Pet: Who Do We Recommend?

Let’s get right down to business. Who do we recommend? Well, if I had to decide between UnKibble or Open Farm for my dogs, I’d go for UnKibble.

I really like that UnKibble uses limited-ingredient recipes containing fresh foods that pet owners will recognize. They offer a subscription service, so irrespective of your dog’s age, UnKibble has you and your furry friend covered.

UnKibble’s dry dog food looked and smelled fresher, with specks of vegetables visible in the morsels, and my Alaskan Klee Kai preferred it to the other dry dog food.

I appreciated that UnKibble provided a customized scooper to make it easy for dog owners to get the portions right, and that you simply have to pour their human-grade dry food into your dog’s bowl.

I really love that Open Farm lets you trace each ingredient from the farm to the bowl, so you can have ultimate knowledge and peace of mind about the food you’re putting in your dog’s bowl.

They’ve got a great range of pet food formats and multiple proteins within each pet food format, which makes them stand out if you care most about being able to mix and match formats and proteins.

While Spot and Tango don’t offer the same level of traceability, I do appreciate that Unkibble uses human-grade ingredients that pet owners will recognize and clearly display these on the bag.

Of these two dog food brands, I felt UnKibble offered a more personal touch, and I had greater success feeding their custom dry food to Copper and Skye. I loved the custom scooper that UnKibble provided. It took the guesswork out of mealtime.

UnKibble came out on top in terms of price. My price is $164.40 a month. Open Farm, on the other hand, was a little pricier at $215.07 a month.

While you won’t go wrong with either of these dog food delivery companies, I’d recommend UnKibble because I prefer their service overall.

UnKibble is a line of dry dog food created by the fresh dog food company Spot & Tango in 2020. They’re one of the leading providers of fresh dog food meals, but have ventured into dry dog food to revolutionize kibble.

UnKibble only uses human-grade ingredients in their recipes that have been formulated by veterinarian nutritionists to ensure your dog is eating a balanced and complete diet. The ingredients are displayed on an easy-to-read label on the front of your dog’s meals.

You won’t find any artificial additives, artificial flavors, preservatives or nasties in UnKibble. It’s just high-quality ingredients cooked at low temperatures. At the time of writing, they’ve got three recipes: beef and barley, cod and salmon, and turkey and sweet potato. They stopped chicken and brown rice in 2026.

To get started with UnKibble, dog owners will need to fill out a questionnaire so UnKibble can tailor their dry dog food to their pet’s specific needs across all life stages. Once you’ve completed their questionnaire, UnKibble will provide your pet’s unique meal plan.

We decided to give UnKibble a try based on the positive reviews of their dry dog food and the promise that it would be more affordable than the fresh dog food meals we’d been feeding our Klee Kai.

Having previously fed dry dog food to Copper and Skye with limited success, I was unsure how successful UnKibble would be because Klee Kai can be picky eaters with some digestive health issues.

When I took a peek inside the bag, I was struck by how UnKibble doesn’t look like the traditional dry food you find at the local pet store or supermarket. I could spot the colors of human-grade ingredients in UnKibble.

Copper and Skye did enjoy UnKibble, and it was a case of mealtime excitement and empty bowls. Of the three recipes, my Klee Kai enjoyed Beef and Barley.

From a dog owner’s perspective, I loved the customized scooper that equated to pre-portioned meals, as well as the ability to store their dry dog food in the cupboard rather than needing space in my fridge or freezer.

Based on the answers I gave in Spot & Tango’s sign-up questionnaire, my meal plan costs $41.10 per week or $164.40 per month. This is substantially cheaper than most fresh dog food brands that I’ve reviewed.

Open Farm Pet

Open Farm Pet is a versatile dog food company that offers a wide range of fresh dog food options to pet parents looking to make a change to their dog’s diet. For this comparison article, I’m going to look at their dry dog food options.

Open Farm offers a lot of different dry foods for dogs. You can avail of grain, grain-free, raw mix and ancient grains if you want to try something a little different. Their human-grade dog food is nutrient-dense and uses non-GMO fruit and vegetables.

They are responsible for sourcing all the human-grade ingredients in their dog food, such as grass-fed beef, from family farms in the USA. You can actually track each ingredient from the source to your dog’s bowl.

Unfortunately, Open Farm doesn’t offer the ability to customize your dog’s meals through a sign-up questionnaire like UnKibble. You’ll have to closely follow their feeding guidelines to make sure that you feed the right amount to your dog because overfeeding wouldn’t be good for your dog’s health.

As a dog owner who tries to do their bit for the environment and reduce their carbon footprint, I wanted to give Open Farm a try because I love their eco-friendly and sustainable approach to their dog food business.

Unfortunately, Copper and Skye didn’t really take to Open Farm’s meals, despite numerous attempts to get my Klee Kai to eat them.

I compared these two brands here.

As I mentioned earlier in this article, my Klee Kai can be fussy eaters, and I tried feeding them Open Farm, but their meals weren’t a hit. While Copper was a more willing participant when it came to eating their fresh meals, I struggled to get Skye to have more than a few mouthfuls.

It’s hard to provide a price overview for every dry dog food item on their website. But their air-dried dog food costs me $215 a month.

Wrapping Up

Skye and UnKibble

We’ve reached the end of our comparison feature, taking a look at UnKibble and Open Farm.

Having considered these two dog food companies and tested their fresh food on my Klee Kai, my recommendation is UnKibble.

My Alaskan Klee Kai loved their dry food, especially the chicken and brown rice recipe. While they don’t usually like dry food, Copper and Skye were happy to eat UnKibble, except for the fish and turkey recipe.

UnKibble cares about dog nutrition from the human-grade ingredients in their vet-formulated recipes, while they offer a happy pup guarantee in the event your dog doesn’t like their dry food.

Having reviewed many dry dog food brands since returning to the USA for our Life With Klee Kai family, I’d consider UnKibble to be one of the best options alongside this air-dried dog food company.
