Best Freeze-Dried Raw Dog Food: Our Ultimate Guide

Best freeze-dried raw food

Last Updated on December 6, 2025 by Kieran Beckles

Are you looking to switch to freeze-dried dog food, but you’re struggling to find a brand that fits your dog’s specific needs?

I’ve been reviewing dog food for the past seven years, and I’ve tried many different pet food formats, including a number of freeze-dried raw brands.

My Alaskan Klee Kai dogs can be fussy eaters, especially my female mini husky, called Skye, who used to regularly turn her nose up at her food. We had many stressful years trying to find pet food that she’d consistently eat.

In this article, we’re going to breakdown the best freeze-dried raw brands in our ultimate buyer’s guide, sharing our favourite brand.

But we’ll also share other options for pet owners who may be looking for pet food to meet a specific need, whether you want to support a sustainable brand, or you’re looking for a brand suitable for a pup with a sensitive tummy.

Best For Value: Tally’s Ranch

Tally’s Ranch is a relatively new player in the freeze-dried marketplace. They have two recipes on offer: beef and chicken. I was impressed with their sign-up questionnaire, which was thorough. Of all the brands on this list, only We Feed Raw offer the same level of customization. So this was a nice touch.

I wasn’t sure how Copper and Skye would like Tally’s Ranch, especially with only two recipes to pick from. However, my Klee Kai dogs did like the beef and chicken. I’ve been able to introduce Tally’s Ranch as an alternative to their favorite brand when I change up the meals from time-to-time.

When I opened my first Tally’s Ranch delivery, I was excited to see a shiny, golden scooper. However, it wasn’t a custom scooper like UnKibble provide. I’m still able to use the scooper with my digital scales to ensure I get Copper and Skye’s individual portions right. But a custom scooper would be even better!

Tally’s Ranch offer the best value if you’re looking for a custom meal plan, recipes containing human-grade ingredients, and pet food delivered to your door monthly. I was charged $171.60 for a month’s supply of food for my Klee Kai dogs. I consider that good value considering the service they provide.

Pros

Cons

  • Alaskan Klee Kai approved

  • Subscription plan

  • Vet approved

  • Scooper included

  • More expensive than traditional options

  • Only chicken and beef recipes

  • No custom scooper

Copper and Skye’s favorite: We Feed Raw

We Feed Raw freeze-dried raw food

We Feed Raw has been a favorite in my home for some time. This brand is responsible for turning my picky eater, Skye, into a food-motivated dog. While we opt for their freeze-dried recipes when we’re boarding Skye and Copper at their pet sitter, we tend to feed them the brand’s raw dog food rather than freeze-dried on a day-to-day basis.

We Feed Raw introduced their freeze-dried range in 2025 on the back of the popularity of their raw dog food meals. They only offer two freeze-dried recipes: beef and chicken. There is less protein options compared to their raw food recipes, but perhaps this might change in the future.

There’s a high protein content with 85% meat and organs alongside 15% non-gmo fruit and vegetables. Just like Tally’s Ranch, you sign up for their freeze-dried meals by completing a questionnaire. They provide a scooper, but alas, it’s not a custom scooper. So I have to get my digital scales out to measure Copper and Skye’s portions.

The only reason they’re not ranked ahead of Tally’s Ranch is the price. They’re slightly more expensive than Tally’s Ranch, so I felt it was only fair to put them in second position. Having said that, We Feed Raw is my Klee Kai’s favorite so I’m willing to pay a little extra. Their freeze-dried meals cost $228.08 a month. It’s pricier but worth it considering Skye is no longer picky!

Pros

Cons

  • Skye and Copper approved

  • 85% meat

  • Highest quality ingredients

  • Custom meal plam

  • Price

  • Only two recipes

  • Not custom scooper

Best For Sustainability: Open Farm

If you’re number one priority is sustainability and transparency, you won’t go too far wrong with Open Farm. They’ve got an open approach to the way they create their freeze-dried dog food, along with all the other pet food formats in their range, allowing customers to follow the food to their pup’s bowl.

Open Farm appealed to me because of their extensive recipe range. They’ve got the best menu of freeze-dried recipes on this list, perhaps with the exception of Stella & Chewy. If you’ve got a severley fussy eater and you’re worried the aforementioned brands don’t have enough variety, Open Farm has you covered.

Open Farm have beef, chicken, turkey, lamb, surf & turf within the freeze-dried range, while they also offer RawMix if you just want a freeze-dried meal topper! While I picked Open Farm as best for sustainability, they’re also the best for meal topper. They’ve also got freeze-dried dinner patties.

How did Copper and Skye like their recipes? They liked the beef recipe but I wouldn’t say they were as food motivated for Open Farm as some of the other brands. We haven’t tried all of the recipes available, because there’s so many!

It’s worth noting that Open Farm can be purchased through their website or Amazon, which offers convenience and speed if you’re a Prime member. We were able to get Open Farm for next day delivery. Their prices start from around $25 depending on the range and the size of the bag!

Pros

Cons

  • Range of recipes

  • Sustainable approach

  • Transparent practices

  • Order on Amazon

  • Lacks customization

  • Expensive

  • No scooper

Best For Sensitivity Tummies: Under The Weather

Under The Weather freeze-dried raw dog food

We came across Under The Weather while researching this article and we simply had to give it a try. Copper and Skye are prone to having sensitive tummies if they manage to find scraps that our toddler has thrown on the floor. We usually cook chicken and rice to settle their tummies on the advice of my sister, who is a vet with over 10 years of experience.

However, Under The Weather is a good option if you’re looking for something to satisfy your dog’s belly if they can be prone to sensitivities like our Klee Kai dogs. Their recipes are described as “soothing” and “bland” to support digestion and hydration in dogs with sensitive tummies.

While Copper and Skye were happy to eat the chicken and rice recipe I tested on them, I don’t think I’d stick with it long term. But it’s a good option to have when we feel like they need to settle their tummies. It does require some work to prepare: you need to mix in warm water and then serve. It reminded me of Pure Pet Food, who were a brand we previously fed in the UK.

It’s very affordable if you purchase through Amazon. We purchased two packs of their 6 ounce bags for $24.99, with next day delivery. Under The Weather gets 4.5 stars based on nearly 1,000 reviews on Amazon. I noticed a number of reviewers shared that this brand had been recommended by vets to calm upset tummies.

Pros

Cons

  • Multiple protein options

  • Bland diet

  • Supports digestive health

  • Order on Amazon

  • No custom meal plan

  • Only 12oz bags

  • Prep required

Best For Gut Health: Get Joy

Get Joy freeze-dried raw food

Next on our ultimate guide is Get Joy. I was introduced to this brand in late 2023 and wrote a review for our website after feeding their freeze-dried recipe to my Alaskan Klee Kai dogs with mixed results. Copper loved it, Skye wasn’t a big fan. However, she can be fussy, so I wasn’t entirely surprised.

Get Joy stand out from the other freeze-dried raw brands on this list for their emphasis on gut health. Their recipes include some targeted probiotic strains to support healthy digestion, nutrient absorption, and a balanced microbiome to help reduce tummy upsets.

I felt Get Joy deserved a mention for this unique approach. I was a little disappointed that they only offer two recipes, although the same can be said of Tally’s Ranch and We Feed Raw. Unfortunately, Skye didn’t show much interest in her Get Joy meals, but Copper was a fan.

I was charged $217.12 for a month’s supply of Get Joy, making this freeze-dried raw brand the second-most expensive in our guide. It’s worth noting Get Joy provide fresh dog food meals if you’d like to combine these two pet food formats. We’ve had success doing this with Copper and Skye in the past.

Pros

Cons

  • Supports gut health

  • Scooper included

  • Wellness focus

  • Supplement add-ons

  • Skye wasn’t a fan

  • Only two recipes

  • Expensive

Best For Convenience: Stella & Chewy

Stella & Chewy
Stella & Chewy (Photo: Life With Klee Kai)

If you’re a dog owner, you’ll likely have heard of Stella & Chewy. Perhaps you’ve seen their red branding at your local pet store. We’ve included Stella & Chewy in this list for pet parents who want convenience. You’ll be able to find them at any local pet store, or you can sometimes get same-day delivery on Amazon.

They get top marks for convenience, but you’re not sacrificing on food quality. Stella & Chewy offer freeze-dried raw patties, raw mixers and treats. They’re recipes are balanced and complete, with minimal processing. We were encouraged by the positive reviews from other dog owners on Amazon.

When we first moved back to the USA from the UK, we fed Stella & Chewy for a few months. I’d pop to our local Pet Food Express every couple of weeks. Copper and Skye loved their Stella & Chewy recipes. While their frozen raw morsels were my Klee Kai’s favorite, they happily ate their raw mixers, too.

I ultimately decided to sign up to a dog food subscription but I like knowing that I can pop to my local pet store five minutes away to pick up Stella & Chewy should I run out of pet food. You can buy any of their freeze-dried ranges on Amazon with same day or next day delivery, with prices starting at $14.99.

Pros

Cons

  • Multiple freeze-dried options

  • High protein content

  • Found at local pet store or Amazon

  • Klee Kai approved

  • No custom meal plan

  • Cost can add up

  • Lacks personalization

Wrapping Up

Best freeze-dried raw food guide
We Feed Raw and Tally’s Ranch (Photo: Life With Klee Kai)

We’ve reached the end of our ultimate guide on the best freeze-dried raw based on our experience testing all these brands on Copper and Skye.

If you’re looking for the best value of all the companies that we’ve tested and reviewed, I’d give the slight edge to Tally’s Ranch.

However, my Alaskan Klee Kai dogs love We Feed Raw, and they’re a great option if you’ve got a picky eater. They transformed Skye from picky to greedy!

Having said that, I’m confident at least one of the freeze-dried raw brands mentioned in this list can meet your needs, whether you’ve got a pup with a sensitive tummy, you value convenience or you want to prioritise gut health.
