Are you thinking about committing to a Pure Pet Food subscription, but you’d like to hear about some of the pros and cons before completing your sign-up?
There’s been a big shift towards human-grade dog food customized to meet the needs of pets over the decade or so, but it can get quite pricey when subscribing to a dog food delivery company.
With the rising cost of living, I understand the dilemma some pet parents face where they want to feed their dog healthy pet food but need to adhere to budget to function as a family each month.
While we like brands such as Butternut Box and Different Dog, they can be quite expensive. In this article, we’re going to look at a more affordable option and perhaps even more convenient.
If you’ve already made your mind up and you don’t want to read my Pure Pet Food pros and cons, you can get up to 30% off your first order via the button below.
Pure Pet Food Pros
Human-grade dry food
While Pure offers a dry dog food range, it doesn’t sacrifice the quality of the ingredients. Pure uses human-grade, natural ingredients in their recipes. You won’t find any additives, fillers or preservatives in their recipes. You can read about all the ingredients in your dog’s food thanks to the clear labeling on the bag. This may be an unfamiliar experience because some kibble brands use confusing labels.
Great recipe range
Pure has a great recipe range to offer pet owners in the UK. If you’ve got a picky eater like my female Alaskan Klee Kai dog Skye, you’ll appreciate having a great selection of recipes to choose from. I found Pure’s menu to be more than satisfactory, and I was able to keep Skye interested in her air-dried meals. They’ve got chicken, duck, herring, turkey, lamb, salmon and game. You’re spoilt for choice if you want to be able to mix up the protein source in your dog’s bowl, which I find works well with Skye.
Cheaper than fresh
There are many perks to Pure but perhaps the biggest one is the price. It’s no secret that fresh dog food can be expensive. Different Dog cost me over £150 to feed to my Alaskan Klee Dogs each month, while Butternut Box cost me closer to £140 to get fresh meals for Copper and Skye. Pure is much cheaper. You can opt for deliveries every 4 weeks, 8 weeks or 16 weeks. If I went for 4 weeks, it would cost me £95.98 to feed to my Klee Kai. I could make an even bigger saving if I went with 8 or 16 weeks.
Easier to store
It can be a hassle having to store fresh dog food in your freezer and fridge. While Butternut Box’s pouches are quite easy to store in your freezer, they still take up a full freezer shelf usually. I found Different Dog’s meal containers more tricky to fit. Pure, however, can be resealed and stored in the cupboard once opened. That’s great if you’ve got a young family like m,e and cupboard space in the kitchen is always at a premium.
Extensive questionnaire
Pure offers an extensive questionnaire to get to know all the details about your dog. They leave no stone unturned in their pursuit to get the whole picture about your dog, their diet, any ailments and any behavioral issues. I was impressed! It was far more exhaustive than Butternut Box and Different Dog.
Pure Pet Food Cons
Costs more than kibble
If you’re accustomed to feeding kibble bought at your local supermarket or pet store, you’ll need to be prepared to cough up more money for Pure. While Pure is substantially cheaper than fresh dog food, it does cost more than traditional pet food. You’re paying for the customization and quality ingredients.
Requires preparation
With Butternut Box and Different Dog, you simply have to open the pouch or container and serve directly into your dog’s bowl. There’s some more preparation required with Pure. You need to mix the dry food with water to create a consistency that your dog will enjoy and eat. So there’s slightly more faff at mealtime.
Difficult to cancel
I signed up to Pure Pet Food to test it out and review it on my Alaskan Klee Kai dogs. I found it a bit bothersome to cancel. I was informed by customer service over email that I had to call a helpline to complete the cancellation. This was offputting! I hope it’s changed or will be changed soon.
Klee Kai prefers fresh to Pure
Although Pure was cheaper and more convenient to store, I didn’t ultimately stay with Pure. I believe Butternut Box does represent the best value for pet owners looking to feed high-quality dog food containing human-grade ingredients. Copper and Skye preferred Butternut Box to any other brand in the UK.
Wrapping Up
We’ve reached the end of my pros and cons article having purchased and tested Pure Pet Food on my Alaskan Klee Kai dogs.
There’s a lot to like about Pure and I believe they’re a good option if you’re looking to find a more affordable option to fresh dog food.
I didn’t stick with Pure because my dogs preferred Butternut Box but I do believe they’re a great option for pet owners in the UK. Just check out the reviews!
