Kindtail PAWD Collapsible Dog Crate Pros & Cons: My Honest Review

Kindtail PAWD Collapsible Crate Pros & Cons

Are you in the market for a dog crate with a smart design, superb functionality at an affordable price? You may want to consider the PAWD collapsible crate by Kindtail.

There is no shortage of dog crates on the market that incorporate some of the key features that most dog owners look for when purchasing a crate.

However, most premium dog crates cost upwards of $500 such as Diggs and Gunner, with some top-of-the-line models like Fable and Impact fetching over $1000.

You could turn to Amazon to find a cheap dog crate but they often don’t stand the test of time (and puppyhood)! I know this all too well with Copper and Skye.

That’s why Kindtail appealed to me. I came across Kindtail when searching for a dog crate that is impeccably designed but can be purchased at a good price.

In this article, I’m going to share my pros and cons of Kindtail, having tested out their PAWD dog crate on my Alaskan Klee Kai dogs.

PAWD Collapsible Dog Crate Pros

Design

Kindtail has created a seamless customer experience from when your delivery arrives. The box is presented nicely, with assembly guidelines to build your PAWD collapsible crate. I was struck by the thoughtfulness that’s gone into the appearance. It doesn’t look like your typical dog crate with a pleasing aesthetic design. Yasmin appreciated the appearance of the crate because it suited interior design of our home unlike some cheap Amazon wire crates and even some premium dog crates. The front door latches to the side so it’s easy to open and close. There’s ample ventilation on all sides of the crate, too.

Easy set up

You don’t need any tools to assemble the PAWD collapsible dog crate. You just need a little brain power and Kindtail’s instruction manual. The PAWD was easy to set up and gets even easier the more times you collapse and reassemble. I had to be careful to slot in the front and back panels properly, and it does require some patience. But it took me less than five minutes to get it ready for Copper and Skye. There are no sharp edges so it’s user friendly and more importantly, dog friendly. The plastic is also BPA and toxin free.

Collapsible

The Revol is probably the quickest collapsible dog crate to collapse and reassemble, but the PAWD isn’t far behind. It’s certainly easier to put together than Impact’s collapsible crate. It’s great that Kindtail has provided an option on the market that is priced at under $210 but still offers an ergonomic experience. We like the versatility of collapsible crates and the PAWD is easy to store in the cupboard, garage or under the bed when not in use because it’s compact when collapsed.

Plastic but strong

I was interested to test out the durability of the dog crate considering the Revol and Impact collapsible crates are made of metal but the PAWD is plastic. Kindtail has used high-quality plastic which ensures the crate has structural integrity when put together. I stacked my two PAWD crates on top of each, with Copper and Skye inside. It was extremely stable. I found my toddler stood on the crate feeding my Klee Kai treats, and the crate held firm. I was impressed with its durability.

Price

You can’t argue with the price of the PAWD crate. The small version costs $139.99 and the medium is priced at $209.99. Let’s compare this pricing to the Revol and Impact. The Revol starts at $599 for the small and the medium costs $799. Impact’s collapsible dog crate doesn’t come in a small size but the medium is priced at $780. As you can see, the PAWD is substantially cheaper. I can get two PAWD medium crates and I still haven’t eclipsed the cost of one Diggs or Impact collapsible crate.

Copper and Skye approved

Copper was itching to get inside the crate before I had it built. Once it was assembled, he plopped himself inside the PAWD and went for a nap. Skye did eventually wander over and go inside her crate. So my Alaskan Klee Kai dogs appeared comfortable inside the plastic crate. I liked the visibility into the crate, the door has slightly narrower ventilation, but I could easily see Copper and Skye inside from the side of the crates.

PAWD Collapsible Dog Crate Cons

Only small and medium sizes

Kindtail doesn’t offer the PAWD dog crate in a large size. So if you’ve got a dog that weighs over 25lbs or will end up weighing over 25lbs, this might not be the crate for you. Copper and Skye weigh around 16lbs each so I opted to get the medium crate, which was perfect for my Klee Kai dogs.

Copper and Skye couldn’t share

Copper and Skye like to share the same dog crate. It’s something they’ve done since pups. The only time they didn’t share a crate was our transatlantic flights from California to London (and back) when they had to be crated separately. We would have opted for a large if Kindtail offered this size to house my Klee Kai together. But this wasn’t an option. Having said that, Copper and Skye appeared to enjoy having their own space.

Durability concerns with big chewers or dogs with anxiety

There are some durability concerns with the PAWD that I saw expressed online. I’ve included them in this article to ensure it’s a balanced review, but I haven’t experienced any issues related to this because Copper and Skye aren’t big chewers. Their separation anxiety has improved a lot. But I can understand why some pet parents might be concerned if they’ve got a young puppy or a big chewer because the crate is plastic. This is something to consider. Perhaps you might want to start with a cheap Amazon crate while you try to get your pup crate trained before investing in the PAWD once they’re ready.

Costs more than some Amazon crates

The PAWD dog crate is very competitively priced when compared to other premium dog crates with similar design features. Yes, it’s made from plastic but it’s high-quality plastic. Having said that, some dog crates might not want to spend more than $100 for a dog crate. If that’s the case, you might prefer to go on Amazon to find a cheaper option.
