We made the decision to ditch traditional kibble in favour of fresh dog food after our Alaskan Klee Kai stopped eating their regular dry dog food that our breeder had initially recommended to us when we brought home Copper and Skye.
At the time, we were living in the UK and the vet bills were mounting because Skye kept having issues with traditional kibble and even prescription dog food wasn’t helping our female Alaskan Klee Kai’s health issues.
A chance meeting with a Samoyed owner introduced us to the concept of fresh dog food and we found a brand in the UK that our Alaskan Klee Kai loved eating thanks to their diverse range of fresh food using human grade ingredients.
Having moved back to the USA in 2023, we had to start a new search to find healthy dog food that Copper and Skye would enjoy, had a number of fresh recipes and provided health benefits to our Alaskan Klee Kai.

Writing on their website, The Pets Table explain that they offer a personalized dog food service, looking to take care of your pet’s health with their complete and balanced fresh meals.
The Pets Table have developed their recipes with help from veterinarian nutritionists to ensure their fresh dog food meets AAFCO industry standards.
In The Pets Table fresh food, you’ll find high quality ingredients alongside superfoods and vitamin A to take care of dogs of all life stages. For pet parents who place a special emphasis on gut health, you’ll be pleased to learn your dog food is high in fiber with probiotics.
The Pets Table offer complete and balanced meals for all life stages – but you’ll need to provide The Pets Table with key details about your dog so the dog food brand can tailor their pet food accordingly.
They offer a combination of air dried and fresh frozen meals – providing variety every pet owner.
The Pets Table’s air dried dog food that is described as being a healthier alternative to traditional kibble but a more affordable option than fresh dog food recipes such as The Farmer’s Dog.
Pet owners can pick between Chicken & Sweet Potato and Beef & Berries if you want their air dried food. The Pets Table offer three fresh food recipes – Chicken Casserole with Green Beans, Beef Stew with Carrots and Turkey Casserole with Broccoli.
When it comes to deciding upon a plan, The Pets Table offer air dried dog food plan, fresh dog food plan, mixed plan and half of fresh plan. Compared to most subscription dog foods, The Pets Table offer a lot of flexibility to cater to all budgets.
Our Verdict On The Pets Table
If you’ve ever signed up to Hello Fresh, you’ll feel comfortable completing The Pets Table sign up process. It was easy to use, straightforward and self-explanatory.
As someone who tends to feed a combination for air dried dog food and raw dog food, I was delighted to see that The Pets Table offer air dried recipes. I was really impressed to see The Pets Table offer a variety of options to cater to picky eaters, whether pet owners want to feed air dried meals, fresh dog food or a combination of both.
If you’re worried about the cost of your dog’s meal plans, The Pets Table cater to all budgets with their four different subscription plans. I thought this was great because it gives most pet owners the chance to ditch dog food bought at the local pet store in favour of something fresher.
When The Pets Table arrived at my door, I opened the box and was delighted to see a meal container. This ensured any left over dog food could be store in the meal container, so there would be no mess in my fridge. Most of The Pets Table fresh dog food went in the freezer, while the air dried food went in the cupboard.
When it came to mealtime, The Pets Table provided a handy guide on each meal pouch to ensure dog parents feed the right portion at mealtime. I’ve only seen one other dog food brand follow through on the pre-portioned element (The Farmer’s Dog). However, there was no pre portion element to their air dried meals.
From a pet owner’s perspective, I was impressed but Copper and Skye weren’t big fans of the food. Skye didn’t really enjoy The Pets Table despite my best efforts to get her to eat it. Copper liked it more but I wouldn’t say it was a resounding hit.
To feed 100% fresh to my Klee Kai would cost $255.40 a month, to feed 100% air dried would cost $154.84, but I opted for the mixed plan so I had to pay $217.56.
Who Is Sundays For Dogs?
Sundays For Dogs are one of the leading providers of air dried dog food in the USA, having launched their range of fresh food diets back in 2019.
Sundays Food For Dogs only use human grade ingredients in their recipes, such as USDA beef, alongside natural ingredients including sweet potatoes and carrots. If you read the ingredients label for their fresh meals, it’s food that you and I would likely eat as part of our diet.
Seeing as Sundays was founded by vets, it’s hardly a surprise that they use human grade food, included in recipes formulated by veterinary nutritionists, before the ingredients are gently air dried to lock in all the nutritional goodness and ensure maximum flavor.
As you would expect from a human grade dog food company, Sundays offer a subscription service. Once pet parents have completed their sign-up questionnaire, Sundays will tailor their meals according to your dog’s dietary needs.
At the time of writing, Sundays offer three proteins – a beef recipe, a chicken recipe and a turkey recipe. You can either go with Sundays Food For Dogs’ recommendation based upon your answers to their questionnaire or make your own selection for your subscription service.
Once you’ve completed signing up, Sundays will ship their pet food to your door, ready to feed to your canine companion because it doesn’t need to be defrosted unlike some new food that may be frozen and needs to be thawed.
Sundays provide a feeding guideline to ensure you get the serving size right for your dog’s diet. Seeing as Sundays is effectively dry food, it’s shelf stable and can be stored in your cupboard. Sundays explain their dry food stays fresh for up to six or seven weeks.
Our Verdict On Sundays For Dogs
Having read about the best dry food using human grade ingredients, we decided to give Sundays a try because Skye wouldn’t consistently eat her frozen meals from some of the USA’s leading fresh dog food brands.
It felt good to know that although Sundays is dry dog food, they use human grade ingredients. We paid close attention to the ingredients that go in Sundays and felt good knowing it was real food that we’d eat as part of our diet.
We were able to disclose any food sensitivities when signing up as well as sharing that Skye is a fussy eater. Once we paid, our Sundays order came within a few days and we were able to feed their dry food to our Klee Kai immediately.
I was a little disappointed that Sundays don’t provide a custom scooper, which is something one of their rivals provides – it’s one small thing I’d like to see Sundays consider in the future.
Copper and Skye loved eating Sundays and we had big success feeding the beef recipe and the chicken recipe. However, Skye wasn’t a big fan of the turkey recipe.
If you’re unsure about ditching your current dog food such as dry kibble for Sundays, I’d recommend giving it a go. They’ve got all the nutrients your dog needs for a balanced and complete diet.
As someone accustomed to feeding fresh, I really liked that Sundays dog food doesn’t need to be stored in the freezer because it’s shelf stable.
I pay $138 a month to feed Sundays to Copper and Skye, which is more than regular dog food but an extremely competitive price for fresh pet food.
Sundays For Dogs Vs The Pets Table: Our Verdict
We’ve reached the key part of our article – do we recommend Sundays or The Pets Table?
Well, we’re still feeding one of these brands to Copper and Skye alongside raw dog food – Sundays. We’ve remained signed up to Sundays For Dogs since trying their food over six months ago.
Ultimately, the biggest factor was Copper and Skye preferred Sundays over The Pets Table. This was the biggest factor when deciding between these two air dried options.
My Alaskan Klee Kai would consistently eat Sundays, resulting in better energy levels, reducing Skye’s pickiness at mealtime and resulting in zero digestive issues since eating her food.
Sundays offered a significant saving on their pet food compared to The Pets Table – even when comparing their air dried food, Sundays is $16 cheaper a month. Over the course of the year, that’s a $192 a year when comparing Sundays to The Pets Table air dried recipes.
While I don’t think you’ll go wrong with The Pets Table if you do decide to give their pet food a try, Sundays would be my recommendation if you’re stuck between these two brands.
