Are you ready to give freeze-dried raw dog food a try, but you’re unsure whether to go with We Feed Raw or Tally’s Ranch?
There’s no shortage of dog food options for pet owners looking to switch from traditional kibble or wet food in favor of something fresher in their furry friend’s diet.
We’ve been searching for the best option for our Alaskan Klee Kai dogs, Copper and Skye, since returning to the USA in 2023. We gave raw food a try with great success, but how did our mini huskies react to freeze-dried raw food?
In this article, we’re going to share our experience with We Feed Raw and Tally’s Ranch, and give our recommendation if you’re ready to embrace this pet food format.
We Feed Raw Vs Tally’s Ranch: Our Recommendation

I’ll get straight to the point for dog owners who want me to cut to the chase. We recommend Tally’s Ranch despite loving We Feed Raw. Here’s why.
Full disclosure: We currently feed We Feed Raw, but in their raw food format rather than freeze-dried food. Skye loves We Feed Raw!
However, I opted to recommend Tally’s Ranch because it’s significantly cheaper.

My Klee Kai’s Tally’s Ranch subscription costs $170.60 a month, and their We Feed Raw (freeze-dried) subscription costs $228.08 a month. That’s a difference of $57.84 a month and $689.76 a year.
Copper and Skye love We Feed Raw, and they’ve got a diverse range of protein sources to cater to the fussiest of dogs. If you’ve got a really picky eater, this might justify the extra price. Tally’s Ranch has just two recipes.
However, my Alaskan Klee Kai dogs happily ate Tally’s Ranch, whether it was their beef or chicken recipe. So I felt I had to recommend their service because of the price difference.
Who Is We Feed Raw?

We Feed Raw is a versatile dog food company who provide raw meals and freeze-dried raw meals to cater to the difference preferences of pups.
They only use USDA-approved meat in their recipes, and a veterinarian nutritionist has formulated their range, so you can have peace of mind as a pet owner.
We Feed Raw boasts one of the best ranges of any dog food brand that we’ve reviewed since returning to California from London over two years ago. They offer six different recipes.
When we first encountered We Feed Raw, they only offered raw dog food. But they expanded their range to include beef and chicken freeze-dried raw meals in 2025.

I’m grateful to We Feed Raw for resolving Skye’s fussiness at mealtime, thanks to their raw food – and my female Klee Kai enjoys their dry food range, too. However, there’s a more limited recipe variety.
We Feed Raw do provide a scooper, but it isn’t customized, which means you’ll need to follow their portion guidelines.
While We Feed Raw was a hit with my dogs, there isn’t that big a price difference between their raw food and freeze-dried raw food. It works out to around $15 cheaper per dog each month.
Who Is Tally’s Ranch?

Tally’s Ranch is a new player in the dog food marketplace after launching in 2025. Their founder Michael is a former employee of The Farmer’s Dog.
They offer two recipes: beef and chicken. You don’t have as much choice, but I’ve found these two protein sources to be the most popular with my dogs.
Their website claims that they’re the only brand in the USA to disclose the percentage of meat content in their recipes: it currently stands at 70%.
Just like We Feed Raw, Tally’s Ranch requires dog owners to complete a sign-up questionnaire to get started with their pet food subscription.

At the current time, Tally’s Ranch offers a gold scoop so you don’t have to worry about utensils at mealtime. However, it isn’t a custom scooper.
Copper and Skye transitioned well to Tally’s Ranch during our trial of their freeze-dried food, despite my female Klee Kai pup being a picky eater.
Tally’s Ranch passed the taste test and it came in cheaper than We Feed Raw, so it’ll appeal to dog owners on a tighter budget.
We Feed Raw Vs Tally’s Ranch: Conclusion

We’ve come to the end of my We Feed Raw and Tally’s Ranch comparison article.
I’d recommend Tally’s Ranch purely because they’re a more affordable option than We Feed Raw.
However, you won’t go wrong with We Feed Raw. My dogs loved their food, too. They’ve also got a more comprehensive range of options.
