I put Sundays For Dogs and The Honest Kitchen to see which my picky eater preferred. In this comparison, I’ll examine the ingredients, price, convenience and my Klee Kai’s verdict.

We decided to make the switch to human-grade dog food in 2018, and we haven’t looked back after seeing firsthand the positive results of changing Copper and Skye’s diet.

We had to find new dog food for our Alaskan Klee Kai when we moved back to the USA because Butternut Box doesn’t offer its service Stateside.

Sundays was a big hit with my picky eater thanks to the treat-like texture and high meat content. Skye consistently finished her Sundays portions over 18 months.

The Honest Kitchen offers more pet food formats, including whole-food clusters and dehydrated dog food, but my Klee Kai preferred Sundays.

Let’s get right down to business. Who do we recommend? Based on our experience, I would go with Sundays For Dogs.

I like that Sundays’ recipes have a high protein content (90%). You want to feel confident that the dog food’s ingredients will keep your pup fuelled and happy.

Indeed, The Honest Kitchen’s dehydrated dog food had just 26% protein, so that’s a big disparity between these two pet food manufacturers.

While Sundays only had three recipes on offer for pet parents, it still offered a decent variety for fussy dogs. Copper and Skye devoured the beef and chicken recipes.

Sundays offered more customization for their human-grade dog food while providing a more personable approach to their subscription service by getting to know your pet.

I preferred the packaging of Sundays For Dogs, with a resealable bag in a brightly colored box. The treat-like texture allowed me to use Sundays as a treat on our walks.

Sundays is more expensive than The Honest Kitchen. Sundays charged me $218 a month. The Honest Kitchen was cheaper at $110 for their dehydrated food.

You can find The Honest Kitchen at your local pet store, which is handy. However, Sundays offers a custom meal plan so you get far great personalization.

While I don’t think you’ll go wrong if you decide to opt for The Honest Kitchen’s dog food, my choice would be Sundays’ air-dried food for Copper and Skye.

Sundays Food For Dogs launched in 2020 to provide dog owners with a more convenient way to feed their pets without the hassle of frozen meals.

They’ve crafted three human-grade recipes – Beef, Chicken and Turkey – thanks to the help of veterinary nutritionists to ensure your dog is getting everything they need.

Sundays For Dogs stands out for the high-protein content of its human-grade recipes. Their jerky-like dehydrated dog food contains 90% protein and 10% superfoods.

As you’d expect from a dog food company promising human-grade dog food, Sundays doesn’t use any additives, preservatives, fillers or nasties in their dehydrated dog food.

To get started with Sundays For Dogs, you’ll need to fill out their sign-up questionnaire to provide them with key details about your pet. You can disclose whether you’ve got a dog with food allergies or on a prescription diet.

The price has changed over the years. I first paid $140 for Sundays in 2023. The price crept up to $184 at the start of 2025. When I went to update this comparison article, I rechecked my price. It currently stands at $218 a month.

To my pleasant surprise, Copper and Skye loved their Sundays’ dog food – the beef and chicken recipes were a particular hit. Skye can be picky and struggles with food sensitivities, but she had no issue eating Sundays For Dogs.

I even had a nibble to see whether the human-grade dog food lived up to my expectations, and while it’s not necessarily meant for human consumption, I can see why my dogs loved it.

I appreciated the convenience of feeding air-dried dog food to my Klee Kai. There was no messing around with meal packets that can leave a mess in the fridge. I didn’t have to worry about making space in the fridge or freezer for frozen meals. I could just pop the Sundays For Dogs box back in the cupboard.

The Honest Kitchen

While researching dog food in the USA, I found The Honest Kitchen to be a potential contender. They’re a well-established dog food company in the USA, having started creating human grade fog food back in 2002.

They have a range of pet food formats, from cluster dry food to dehydrated dog food, and from wet food to toppers. For the purposes of this comparison article, I’ll be looking at their dehydrated dog food.

At the time of writing, they offer 19 different dehydrated dog food recipes, including whole-grain and grain-free options. They explain online that their recipes are made with whole-food ingredients, such as real meat, fruit and vegetables.

How does Honest Kitchen compare to The Farmer's Dog?

While The Honest Kitchen doesn’t have a sign-up questionnaire to get to know your dog on the same level as Sundays, they do have a recipe finder for pet parents to help find the right dog food for your pup.

I did like the range of recipes The Honest Kitchen offers to cater to owners who want to feed human-grade dog food but also want variety. However, I did notice that their ingredient labels were quite complicated, with some ingredients (mainly vitamins) that I hadn’t heard of before.

Putting that aside, Copper and Skye were relatively passive in terms of their interest in this dog food. Copper showed more interest than Skye, which is to be expected because he’s less fussy than his Klee Kai sister. Having said that, he became less excited the longer I kept feeding The Honest Kitchen.

Skye is a picky eater, and I found that she struggled with mealtime excitement with this food.
