Last Updated on May 18, 2026 by Kieran Beckles

If you’re trying to decide between Sundays for Dogs and Just Food for Dogs, you’re in the right place. I tested both brands on my two Alaskan Klee Kai, including my notoriously picky eater, Skye, to see which one offered the best combination of ingredient quality, convenience, and value. In this comparison, I’ll break down the key differences and share which dog food I recommend for most dog owners.

Sundays Vs JustFoodForDogs Quick Verdict
Skye and Copper wait for Sundays

After testing both Sundays for Dogs and Just Food for Dogs on my two Alaskan Klee Kai, Sundays is my top recommendation for most dog owners.

My picky eater, Skye, loved both brands, but Sundays offers the best overall combination of ingredient quality, convenience, and value. Because it’s air-dried and shelf-stable, there’s no need for refrigeration or freezer space, making it much easier to store and serve every day.

Just Food for Dogs is an excellent fresh dog food made with whole-food ingredients and veterinary expertise. However, it requires refrigeration and more prep, which may not be ideal for every household.

My Overall Winner:

Sundays for Dogs

Choose Sundays if:

I started researching the best fresh dog food brands because I know Copper and Skye prefer fresh food made with human-grade ingredients, in delicious recipes with lots of flavor and ample nutrients.

Through this process, I came across both Sundays For Dogs and Just Food For Dogs. They’re two of the more established dog food delivery companies in the USA, creating fresh dog food recipes for American dogs.

Sundays provides air-dried dog food as part of a custom meal plan. Copper and Skye liked their treat-like texture and the high meat content. My picky dog ate it happily for over 18 months.

Just Food For Dogs appeals because of the sheer number of options available. You’ve got ample opportunity to alternate pet food format and the protein you’re feeding.

In this dog food comparison article, I’m going to take a look at Sundays and Just Food For Dogs to see how their respective recipes are made and how their subscription plans work and give our recommendation.

Sundays Or Just Food For Dogs: Our Pick

Let’s get right down to business. Do we recommend Sundays Food For Dogs or Just Food For Dogs?

Well, I’d recommend giving Sundays’ dog food a try if you’re ready to ditch the canned food to bolster your pet’s health.

I really liked that Sundays uses USDA beef and USDA chicken and has a high meat content in their air-dried dog food. This appealed to my Klee Kai.

Seeing as Sundays Food For Dogs has a texture similar to jerky, I felt Copper and Skye were more inclined to give it a try. I liked being able to use it as a table topper, training treat or scentwork.

Just Food For Dogs has a lot of pet food formats and recipes. So you have a lot of options to keep the fussiest dogs happy at mealtime. This is the biggest pro.

I appreciated Sundays’ transparency when it came to how they slowly air-dried my Klee Kai’s food and the human-grade ingredients in their dry dog food.

As a parent with a busy family life, I was a big fan of how convenient Sundays are to feed my dogs. You just take it out of the cupboard, pour it into the dog bowl and pop it back on the shelf.

Sundays is an affordable option for pet parents who want to feed fresh without breaking the bank. I only had to pay $218 per month to feed Sundays to Copper and Skye.

You can find Just Food For Dogs at your local pet store or order directly from their website. When I placed a test order in 2026, I paid $312.30 a month for a mix of fresh food.

Sundays is better priced, customized to my Klee Kai dogs, and convenient because it’s shelf stable and doesn’t require freezer space.

My only complaint would be the lack of a custom scooper to make life even easier. I’d love to see this included in the future.

Sundays For Dogs has created a range of air-dried dog food for pet owners who prefer dry dog food but want to move away from traditional kibble in favor of products made with human-grade ingredients.

Sundays uses only human-grade ingredients in its recipes, such as USDA beef, beef liver, chicken liver, ground beef bone, and fish oil. They use fresh fruit and vegetables that most pet owners will recognize, perhaps from their healthy diet.

Veterinary nutritionists have formulated Sundays’ dog food, before their dog food is gently air dried. It has a high meat content of 90%, with a treat-like texture rather than the brown pellets you’ll find with most kibble brands. This texture really encouraged my dogs to finish their portions.

Sundays’ air-dried food boxes use clear labels that display the human-grade food in their recipes, and you won’t find any artificial additives, artificial preservatives or nasties in their shelf-stable dog food. This appealed to me and gave me peace of mind.

At the time of writing Sundays offer a beef, chicken and turkey recipes. To get started, you’ll need to fill out their sign-up questionnaire before they suggest a meal plan (or you can choose the recipes you think will best suit your pup).

It’s ready to serve, and once you’ve fed Sundays’ food to your pet, you can reseal the bag and pop in the cupboard so you don’t have to worry about thawed dog food taking up space in your fridge or freezer. I found this more convenient than fresh or raw dog food.

I was disappointed Sundays didn’t provide a custom scooper with their pet food, unlike some other brands, but there was no denying Copper and Skye loved this high-quality food.

My Klee Kai showed lots of mealtime excitement, which was incredible to see because I usually associate this type of behavior with feeding fresh dog food. This continued over an 18-month period. So I feel confident recommending it to dog owners with picky eaters.

I paid $138 a month to feed Sundays to Copper and Skye in 2023, but the price has increased since then. Our cost increased to $184 in 2025, but our current price is $218. That’s an increase of $80 over three years.

Just Food For Dogs is a fresh dog food company who have been creating human-grade pet food in the USA for more than a decade.

While they initially started with a couple of stores in California, you can now find Just Food For Dogs at your local pet store. Alternatively, dog parents can head to Just Food For Dogs’ website to order their fresh dog food – or other pet food varieties.

For the purposes of this dog food comparison article, I’ll be looking at their fresh-frozen meals.

Just Food For Dogs range (Photo: Life With Klee Kai)

Just Food For Dogs states on its website that it uses what it calls “human-edible ingredients” in its vet-developed recipes.

They offer a wide variety of recipes, which is perfect if you’re a pet parent with a picky eater. These include beef, chicken, lamb, tofu, turkey and venison.

If you’re picking up Just Food For Dogs at your local pet store, you won’t be getting pre-portioned meals tailored to your pet. However, you can find a feeding calculator on their website.

I was interested in giving Just Food For Dogs a try when we first arrived back in the USA because it didn’t require a big commitment like a monthly subscription.

My local pet store – Pet Food Express – had a freezer dedicated to Just Food For Dogs fresh frozen meals, so I had ample choice.

The meals varied in price from $9 to $13, depending on the protein source. I opted for two beef-and-chicken meal pouches that cost me around $22.

Once I got home, I had to thaw their dog food before I could feed it to my Alaskan Klee Kai. I popped it in some lukewarm water, which took about an hour.

Copper and Skye liked the beef recipe but weren’t as enthusiastic about the chicken recipe. I didn’t use a meal pouch in a single mealtime so I had to store the thawed meals in my fridge, which was a bit messy and not ideal when stored next to human food.

Having reviewed a lot of different human-grade dog foods, Just Food For Dogs can be pricey. They don’t offer a custom plan but when I figured out how much food I needed, my price was $312.30.
