Quick verdict | The Farmer’s Dog Overall, The Farmer’s Dog is my top pick for fresh food if you want high-quality ingredients and the convenience of pre-portioned pouches. It’s the easiest way I’ve found to feed fresh without the guesswork. |
The Farmer’s Dog offer range of fresh pet food in the form of frozen meals delivered to your door, while Ollie provides pet parents with the opportunity to feed fresh dog food, baked food or a combination of both fresh dog food and baked food.
While fresh dog food brands such as The Farmer’s Dog and Ollie offer elevated dog food when compared to regular pet food you’d find at your local pet store or supermarket, dog owners will need to be prepared to pay more for their healthy dog food.
In this article, we’re going to tackle the question of Ollie and The Farmer’s Dog price, how their tailored meal plans work and who represents the best fresh dog food.
The Farmer’s Dog Vs Ollie: Our Price

To get started with our Ollie and The Farmer’s Dog price comparison, I’m going to share what I paid when I ordered from these two fresh dog food delivery companies in the spirit of transparency.
Copper is an eight-year-old Alaskan Klee Kai who is neutered, weighs 16lbs, needs to lose a little weight, currently eats a raw diet, is relatively active every day, and doesn’t get many treats.
Skye is an eight-year-old Alaskan Klee Kai who is spayed, weighs 15lbs, needs to gain a little weight, is a picky eater, is relatively active, and gets a moderate amount of treats throughout the day.
When we signed up for The Farmer’s Dog, we paid $3.24 a day for each of our Alaskan Klee Kai dogs. Our monthly price with The Farmer’s Dog is $194.40.

Let’s take a look at our Ollie price. Based upon the same details, we were quoted $5.18 per day for each of our dogs. Our monthly price for both dogs is $310.80.
When it came to feeding our Alaskan Klee Kai dogs, The Farmer’s Dog worked out $4.70 cheaper per day, $32.90 cheaper per week and $131.60 cheaper per month.
Just in case you were wondering, we would save $ 1,579.20 a year by feeding The Farmer’s Dog human-grade food rather than Ollie’s fresh-food diet.
Ollie offers a mixed plan combining their baked and fresh dog food, which would have reduced the monthly price to $258. That’s still more expensive than The Farmer’s Dog.
Ollie dog food offers a half-fresh plan to further reduce the price if you have a limited budget and are happy to mix fresh Ollie food with your dog’s current food.
The monthly price is $184, which is still higher than The Farmer’s Dog’s.
Is The Farmer’s Dog More Expensive Or Cheaper Than Ollie?

In my experience ordering from The Farmer’s Dog and Ollie, it’s clear that The Farmer’s Dog is cheaper than Ollie, despite the latter offering a versatile range of dog food.
The Farmer’s Dog offers four fresh food recipes (beef, chicken, pork, and turkey). You can only order fresh dog food from The Farmer’s Dog; they don’t offer any dry food.
Ollie dog food comes in two formats: fresh and baked. Ollie allows dog parents to pick between a full fresh meal plan, a mixed meal plan and a half fresh meal plan.
As you might expect, Ollie’s fresh dog food is the most expensive, followed by the mixed plan, the half-fresh plan is the cheapest, but you’re only getting a half portion of fresh food for your dog.
Although Ollie offers more options to dog owners, Ollie proved more expensive than The Farmer’s Dog when comparing all their different meal plans to The Farmer’s Dog recipes.
So if your criteria for deciding between Ollie and The Farmer’s Dog come down to price, The Farmer’s Dog is the more affordable option for pet owners who want to feed their pup fresh food.
To highlight the price difference between Ollie and The Farmer’s Dog, I’m going to share exactly what I paid for The Farmer’s Dog meals, Ollie’s food packs and baked goods.

The Farmer’s Dog Vs Ollie: Who Offers The Best Fresh Pet Food?

If you care about the price, but it’s not the only factor when deciding between Ollie and The Farmer’s Dog, let’s take a closer look at these two fresh dog food brands.
While Ollie does offer a more thorough service with fresh food and baked food to cater to dogs who prefer a mixture of textures in their dog bowl, my Alaskan Klee Kai preferred The Farmer’s Dog.
I found that Copper and Skye would typically finish The Farmer’s Dog meals but I’d find that Skye would have some remaining food in her bowl when I gave her Ollie.
Both Ollie and The Farmer’s Dog offer a good range of fresh food recipes to cater to picky eaters like Skye, but my Alaskan Klee Kai preferred The Farmer’s Dog’s pet food.
Ollie and The Farmer’s Dog both customized their fresh dog food to meet my Klee Kai’s needs, with their recipes formulated by veterinary nutritionists to meet the AAFCO standards.

But when I opened my first boxes from Ollie and The Farmer’s Dog, one dog food brand stood out.
The Farmer’s Dog labelled Copper and Skye’s individual meals, which was really important because I had shared in both sign-up questionnaires that Copper needed to lose weight and Skye needed to gain weight.
It showed that The Farmer’s Dog listened and helped dog parents ensure the right dog is eating the right customized fresh food, especially if you have multiple pets with different weight goals and health issues.
The Farmer’s Dog packaging had a handy pre-portion guideline on the front so I knew exactly how much of their dog food to feed at mealtime. The Farmer’s Dog offers a truly pre-portioned dog food service, which wasn’t the case with Ollie, who just provided a feeding guideline. Ollie’s packaging didn’t offer anything comparable to this.
Overall, my recommendation would be The Farmer’s Dog based on my experience.
