We Feed Raw Vs The Farmer's Dog: Quick Verdict |
If your priority is curing mealtime hesitation once and for all, We Feed Raw stands out. While The Farmer’s Dog remains an exceptional, convenient option for owners who want gently cooked, customized meals, We Feed Raw completely transformed Skye. The biological excitement of a high-protein, raw diet turned both of our Klee Kai into dogs that obsessively finish every single bowl. It's a level of mealtime enthusiasm we simply haven't seen replicated with cooked fresh food. |
It can be challenging to find the best fresh or raw dog food for your pet, given the abundance of brands claiming to offer human-grade, customized, pre-portioned dog food at an affordable price.
Since returning to the US from the UK in 2023, we have been on a mission to find the best fresh dog food for Copper and Skye, as our Alaskan Klee Kai are picky eaters with sensitive digestive systems.
It’s been a long search, and we’ve tried many fresh food brands, but we eventually settled on a few leading candidates, including some fresh dog food brands and a couple of raw dog food companies that provided human-grade dog food that Copper and Skye loved.
In this article, we’re going to take a look at We Feed Raw and The Farmer’s Dog, what recipes they’ve got on offer, how much you can expect to pay, and give our verdict on the best dog food.

We Feed Raw Or The Farmer’s Dog: Our Verdict

Let’s get right down to business and share our recommendation if you’re stuck between We Feed Raw and The Farmer’s Dog.
While I like both pet food options, I’d recommend We Feed Raw over The Farmer’s Dog based on my experience feeding their dog food to my Alaskan Klee Kai.
I’d never seen Skye show such enthusiasm for dog food until we started to feed our pets this raw diet.
Frankly, I was astounded and delighted to see Skye not only finish but lick her bowl clean at mealtime. Copper tends to be more food-motivated, but he loved We Feed Raw. It was a resounding success.

From a dog owner’s perspective, I would consider We Feed Raw the most convenient raw food company I’ve tried.
Unlike previous raw food that’s arrived in huge portions in meal containers, We Feed Raw uses meal packets to make it easy to adopt this new pet food format if you’re new to raw diets.
We Feed Raw’s pet food is stored in square meal packets that are easy to stack in your freezer. It’s a small point, but it makes a big difference if you’re maximizing space in your freezer, like I am. Alternatively, you can avail of We Feed Raw’s freeze-dried range for the convenience of dry food.
We Feed Raw is competitively priced when compared to other raw dog food companies, although The Farmer’s Dog is even more affordable for feeding.
If you’re ready to ditch processed kibble in favor of fresh food to sustain quality life for your dog, The Farmer’s Dog is a great option, and I believe their food contains great nutrition.

But in my home and amongst my dogs, We Feed Raw was the clear winner.
In 2026, we feed raw costs more than The Farmer’s Dog if you choose their raw meals. We pay $280 a month, while The Farmer’s Dog costs $251.04. However, We Feed Raw is cheaper than The Farmer’s Dog if you opt for their freeze-dried food, which costs $203 a month for our dogs.
The Farmer's Dog raised their prices since our first review three years ago.
Here's my detailed price breakdown of their food.
In fact, I’m currently paying for We Feed Raw alongside a sprinkling of this air dried dog food brand as a tasty topper to provide Copper and Skye with a balanced and complete diet.
We Feed Raw

We Feed Raw is a raw dog food company who have been providing American pet parents with the chance to adopt a raw diet since 2008.
We Feed Raw has created balanced, complete meals formulated by a PhD nutritionist, using USDA-sourced, human-grade meats alongside other human-grade ingredients. They don’t use any fillers, preservatives, artificial colors, or flavors.
As you might expect from a dog food delivery company, We Feed Raw requires dog parents to complete a sign-up questionnaire to allow the pet brand to create a tailored raw food diet for your dog.
You can opt to stick with We Feed Raw’s suggested meal plan (which I recommend if feeding raw for the first time), or you can decide which meals you want to include in your dog’s raw food diet.

At the time of writing, We Feed Raw offers five proteins: beef, chicken, lamb, pork, and turkey. When we updated this review in 2026, we learned that they no longer offer a version of the recipe.
It’s worth highlighting that We Feed Raw launched its freeze-dried dog food earlier this year. You can pick between beef and chicken recipes. It’s an excellent option if you prefer to stick with dry dog food, and our price was lower than that of frozen raw.
While we initially found another raw dog food brand, we ultimately switched to We Feed Raw. It’s been a success. To our surprise, Skye is completely obsessed with her raw meals, unlike anything we’ve seen before.
How did Skye like Sundays compared to We Feed Raw?
Discover our picky eater's verdict here.

While she likes fresh food, we’ve never seen such mealtime excitement as with We Feed Raw. She comes to the fridge and follows me around the kitchen until her food is on the floor. Our female Klee Kai vacuums it up, so I’ve even had to buy a slow feeder to stop her wolfing it down!
We’ve been feeding their food for over 18 months, and Skye has never refused it. We’ve seen so many benefits to We Feed Raw, including better appetite, digestion, energy and overall health. It’s given us peace of mind and saved us a lot of money in vet bills.
5 benefits we discovered to We Feed Raw
(and why we're never leaving!)
I found the sign-up process easy, and I was pleasantly surprised by the price. We pay less than $203 per month for freeze-dried and $280 a month for raw meals. We usually stick to the raw meals unless we’re leaving Copper and Skye at our dog sitter.
I like how We Feed Raw uses meal pouches, which are easy to cut open and serve direct into my Alaskan Klee Kai’s dog food bowls. There’s minimal mess, and I use a container to store any leftover raw food (it would be a nice touch if We Feed Raw provided a meal container to help subscribers).

The Farmer’s Dog

The Farmer’s Dog is one of the leading dog food companies in the United States, and we’ve seen many pet owners sharing their experiences with The Farmer’s Dog on social media. It was a no-brainer to give their food a try.
As we mentioned earlier, we supplied Butternut Box in the UK. We felt like The Farmer’s Dog was the American equivalent, so we signed up to receive their fresh food meals.
The Farmer’s Dog only uses high-quality ingredients such as USDA-approved meat alongside fresh produce such as fruit and vegetables to create custom meals of high nutritional value.

They gently cook their meals to lock in all the benefits of the human grade ingredients, while the recipes are formulated by veterinary nutritionists.
To get started, The Farmer’s Dog will require pet owners to complete a questionnaire that asks questions about their dog, such as age, breed, and weight. The questionnaire also quizzes you about your pet’s health and learns your desired weight for your pup.
The Farmer’s Dog offers four recipes: beef, chicken, pork and chicken. The Farmer’s Dog food is stored in convenient meal pouches that display how much to feed in your dog’s diet.
Looking for other fresh dog food options?
I wrote a comparison article featuring Just Food For Dogs and The Farmer's Dog.

Compared to some fresh dog food delivery companies, it’s great that The Farmer’s Dog displays on the front of their meal packets exactly how much to feed at each mealtime to follow their meal plans.
I was impressed with the easy-to-read and transparent labels on the front of the meal pouches – I could clearly read natural ingredients.
Once I settled on Copper and Skye’s meals, thanks to their easy-on-the-eye quiz, my Alaskan Klee Kai’s pet food arrived in a few days, along with their respective meal plans to follow.

What I really liked about The Farmer’s Dog is the pre-portioned element of their service. Having taken the time to complete their questionnaire, The Farmer’s Dog gave a convenient feeding guide graphic displayed on the front of each meal packet.
They labeled Copper and Skye’s respective meals to ensure the right Klee Kai got the right food. A small touch but something often omitted by other fresh dog food companies.
Copper and Skye had a lukewarm reaction to The Farmer’s Dog. Copper happily ate it, but Skye was a little fussy. She liked beef and pork recipes but wasn’t keen on the chicken and turkey recipes.
While The Farmer’s Dog was a little hit-and-miss with my fussy eater, I was impressed overall. The Farmer’s Dog is priced at $251.04 a month.
| What We Like (Pros) | What to Keep in Mind (Cons) |
|---|---|
| Competitive Value: Most affordable fresh-frozen brand we’ve tested. | Limited Menu: Only offers four core recipes (beef, chicken, turkey, pork). |
| Picky-Eater Approved: Passed the taste test with both Copper and Skye. | Messy Thawing: Soft pouches can leak in the fridge if not stored upright. |
| Starter Extras: Includes a handy storage container and insulated tote. | Freezer Space: Requires significant freezer room to store a full box. |
| Tailored Portions: Clear feeding guidelines printed directly on each pouch. | Price Premium: Noticeably more expensive than traditional dry kibble. |
