Have you been considering a switch to Nom Nom, but you’d like to learn about the pros and cons of their dog food before committing to a subscription?
The Farmer's Dog Quick Verdict |
We first ditched kibble in favor of fresh dog food in 2018 after a chance meeting with a Samoyed owner in the Bay Area, who spoke about the success she had feeding Nom Nom.
The brand has changed since we first fed Nom Nom, but we were living in the UK with our Alaskan Klee Kai dogs, so we paused our Nom Nom subscription.
When we returned to California in 2023, we placed an order with Nom Nom because we knew Skye liked their fresh dog food. However, we didn’t stick with them and currently feed We Feed Raw alongside Sundays as a topper.
In this article, I’m going to share my Nom Nom pros and cons to give fellow pet owners an insight into what to expect if you sign up to receive their meals.
If you’re looking for the best fresh dog food, we recommend The Farmer’s Dog. You can read our guide on the best fresh dog food for sensitive stomachs.
Nom Nom Pros
Fresh, whole ingredients

Nom Nom states on its website that its recipes contain fresh, whole ingredients. When you get your first box of Nom Nom dog food, you can clearly see the fresh ingredients alongside chunks of meat in your pup’s meals.
This gave me confidence that my Alaskan Klee Kai dogs were eating high-quality dog food.
Some fresh dog food doesn’t look particularly appetizing, but Nom Nom was an exception.
Good recipe range
Nom Nom has a decent range of recipes, which I value, since I have a picky eater.
They offer beef mash, chicken dishes, pork potluck, turkey fare, turkey-and-chicken cookout, and lamb pilaf.
If you’ve got a fussy eater like my female Alaskan Klee Kai dog, Skye, you have the opportunity to vary their meals.
Recipes priced differently

Continuing with the recipe theme, Nom Nom prices their recipes differently.
This is a handy feature because if you’re working on a budget, you can choose the more affordable recipes instead of the premium meals.
It allows you to enjoy some flexibility with your meal plan.
Nom Nom’s chicken recipe is the cheapest; next, we’ve got the pork and turkey meals that are medium-priced, while the beef mash is the most expensive.
Skye and Copper approved
Skye and Copper liked Nom Nom’s recipes, especially beef mash, chicken cuisine and pork potluck.
I believe a combination of the fresh ingredients and good flavor encouraged my Klee Kai to finish their portions.
You can even watch me taste test Nom Nom on our YouTube channel, and I was impressed with the flavor, which topped Ollie, The Pets Table and The Farmer’s Dog.
Probiotics
If you decide to go with a Nom Nom subscription, you can add some probiotics to your meal plan.
Nom Nom offers full-spectrum probiotics for overall wellness and a GI supplement focused on a balanced microbiome and healthy digestion in dogs.
This is a nice addition that might make the brand slightly more appealing.
Nom Nom Cons
Expensive

The biggest con with Nom Nom is the price. When we first signed up for Nom Nom in 2018, we paid just over $150 a month for Copper and Skye’s meals.
Fast forward seven years, and my Nom Nom subscription would now cost me $291.76 a month. That’s a significant increase.
Having reviewed most fresh dog food brands in the US, Nom Nom is among the most expensive. The Farmer’s Dog worked out $95 cheaper a month.
Not pre-portioned
Nom Nom’s meals don’t come in pre-portioned packaging, which means you’ll have to make sure to adhere to their feeding guidelines to avoid overfeeding or underfeeding your dog. It’s a shame that Nom Nom doesn’t make life a little easier for pet owners like some other brands, such as The Farmer’s Dog and The Pets Table.
Lacks customization

I noticed some curious about Nom Nom’s custom meal plans. I completed their questionnaire for Copper and Skye.
Copper is heavier and needs to shed some pounds. Skye is a little underweight and needs to gain some weight. However, I was quoted the same amount for their meals.
This struck me as strange, seeing as I would’ve thought Skye would need more food per month.
No meal container
Nom Nom didn’t include a meal container or a scooper with my first delivery. This was a pity because I consider it a nice touch when a brand provides a container to store half-opened meal pouches.
How Does Nom Nom Compare To Other Brands
| The Farmer's Dog | Ollie | Nom Nom |
|---|---|---|
| Fresh | Fresh | Fresh |
| 4 recipes | 5 options | 6 options |
| $3.24 a day per dog | $5.18 a day per dog | $4.86 a day per dog |
| $194.40 a month | $310.80 a month | $291.76 a month |
| Pre-portioned guideline | Scooper | No customization |
| Picky eater approved | Klee Kai enjoyed | Mixed reaction |
Wrapping Up

We’ve reached the end of our Nom Nom pros and cons article.
You can see there are some advantages and disadvantages to their dog food delivery service.
Copper and Skye liked their food as much as any fresh dog food brand that we’ve tried in the US, but the price was off-putting.
Ultimately, we decided to stick with a raw dog food company called We Feed Raw alongside Sundays as a topper.
