Are you thinking about committing to a Pure Pet Food subscription, but you’d like to hear about some of the pros and cons before completing your sign-up?

There’s been a big shift towards human-grade dog food customized to meet the needs of pets over the past decade or so, but it can get quite pricey when subscribing to a dog food delivery company.

With the rising cost of living, I understand the dilemma some pet parents face where they want to feed their dog healthy pet food but need to adhere to a budget to function as a family each month.

Quick verdict

Pure Pet Food

Overall, Pure is a good choice if you prefer dried dog food to fresh. They’ve got a great range of recipes. Our picky eater Skye liked their air-dried food. It’s also more wallet-friendly compared to other dog food delivery brands. Claim 40% with code “AFFAD4015”.

Pure is convenient because they offer air-dried dog food that can be stored in your cupboard rather than taking up fridge and freezer space.

We updated this article in 2026, and Pure is significantly cheaper than its competitors in the dog food delivery space.

However, Pure required work to create Skye and Copper’s meals. I had to mix the air-dried food with water before serving. Slightly more faff!

In this article, we’re going to look at a more affordable option that is perhaps even more convenient.

Pure Pet Food Pros

Human-grade dry food

While Pure offers a dry dog food range, it doesn’t compromise on ingredient quality.

Pure uses human-grade, natural ingredients in their recipes. You won’t find any additives, fillers or preservatives in their recipes.

You can read about all the ingredients in your dog’s food thanks to the clear labeling on the bag.

This may be an unfamiliar experience because some kibble brands use confusing labels, but I loved Pure’s simplicity and transparency.

Great recipe range

Pure offers a wide range of recipes for pet owners in the UK. If you’ve got a picky eater like my female Alaskan Klee Kai dog Skye, you’ll appreciate having a great selection of recipes to choose from.

I found Pure’s menu to be more than satisfactory, and I was able to keep Skye interested in her air-dried meals. They’ve got chicken, duck, herring, turkey, lamb, salmon and game.

We were spoilt for choice and could mix up the protein source in Skye’s bowl, which works well with her.

Cheaper than fresh

There are many perks to Pure, but perhaps the biggest one is the price. It’s no secret that fresh dog food can be expensive.

I updated this article in 2026 and was shocked by the increases!

Different Dog costs me over £110 to feed my Alaskan Klee Dogs each month, while Butternut Box costs me closer to £160 to get fresh meals for Copper and Skye.

Pure is much cheaper. My monthly delivery costs £84 a month to feed my Klee Kai. That’s almost half the price of Butternut Box!

Easier to store

It can be a hassle having to store fresh dog food in your freezer and fridge.

While Butternut Box’s pouches are quite easy to store in your freezer, they usually take up a full shelf. I found Different Dog’s meal containers more tricky to fit.

Pure can be resealed and stored in the cupboard once opened. That’s great if you’ve got a young family like me, and kitchen cupboard space is always at a premium.

Extensive questionnaire

Pure offers an extensive questionnaire to learn all the details about your dog.

They leave no stone unturned in their pursuit to get the whole picture about your dog, their diet, any ailments and any behavioral issues. I was impressed!

It was far more exhaustive than Butternut Box and Different Dog.

Pure Pet Food Cons

Costs more than kibble

If you’re accustomed to feeding kibble bought at your local supermarket or pet store, you’ll need to be prepared to cough up more money for Pure.

While Pure is substantially cheaper than fresh dog food, it does cost more than traditional pet food.

You’re paying for the customization and the quality of the ingredients.

Requires preparation

With Butternut Box and Different Dog, you simply have to open the pouch or container and serve directly into your dog’s bowl.

There’s some more preparation required with Pure. You need to mix the dry food with water until it reaches a consistency your dog will enjoy and eat.

So there’s slightly more faff at mealtime.

Difficult to cancel

I signed up to Pure Pet Food to test it out and review it on my Alaskan Klee Kai dogs. When I first wrote this review, I shared that I found it a bit of a hassle to cancel.

I had to call a helpline to complete the cancellation. This was off-putting!

I’m glad to say it’s changed. You just need to contact Pure’s customer service team 14 days before your next delivery to cancel your subscription.

Klee Kai prefers fresh to Pure

Although Pure was cheaper and easier to store, I ultimately didn’t stay with It. Butternut Box was Skye and Copper’s favorite fresh dog food brand in UK.

But if I was to return to a dog food subscription in the UK, I would give it another go considering the price increases in 2026.
