If you’ve landed on this comparison article and you want to cut straight to the answer rather than reading about Sundays and The Farmer’s Dog in more detail, we’ll start by sharing our recommendation.

If I were to sign up permanently to one of these brands, it would be Sundays For Dogs.

I like that Copper and Skye can enjoy all the benefits of fresh food without the hassle of making space in my fridge and freezer, and without any messing around with meal packets and utensils.

Sundays For Dogs has a higher protein content in their air-dried dog food than a lot of fresh food meals.

For example, Sundays’ beef recipe contains 90% protein, but The Farmer’s Dog’s beef recipe has just 41%. So that’s a big difference!

There’s also the price to consider when weighing up which of these two well-established brands offers the best dog food delivery service.

Sundays For Dogs would cost me $184.40 a month, but The Farmer’s Dog would set me back $194.40 a month. Over the course of the year, that’s $120 saving!

Who Are Sundays For Dogs?

Sundays For Dogs is one of the leading providers of dry dog food in the USA. While they provide American pet owners with the opportunity to feed dry food, Sundays’ dog food is different from traditional kibble or canned food that you may find at your local supermarket.

Sundays only use human-grade ingredients in their recipes that are formulated by veterinary nutritionists – giving you peace of mind your pet is eating healthy dog food.

Unlike a lot of fresh dog food brands that use high-quality ingredients in their recipes, Sundays’ dog food has a high protein content – 90% to be precise. The other 10% is made up of superfoods to promote a healthy lifestyle for dogs of all ages.

Sundays have created three recipes to cater to pet owners who want to feed human-grade dog food – they’ve got Beef, Chicken and Turkey. It’s a decent range for dog owners with a picky eater like me.

To get started with Sundays, you’ll need to fill out their sign-up questionnaire before Sundays create a custom meal plan and share the monthly cost of their dog food delivery service.

Sundays’ dog food is convenient because it’s shelf-stable dog food and can be stored in your cupboard rather than taking up room in the fridge or freezer. Once you’ve fed your dog, you reseal the bag and put it away.

Not only does Sundays offer one of the highest protein contents of all the fresh dog food that we’ve reviewed, but Sundays’ dog food is 36% cheaper than fresh dog food delivery companies. (I actually put that to the test in this article!)

I was hesitant about feeding air-dried dog food to Copper and Skye when we initially moved back to California because they’d been eating fresh dog food in the UK. However, I was encouraged by the stellar reviews of Sundays’ food and how they catered to dogs with food allergies like Copper and picky eaters like Skye.

It was relatively simple to get started with their dog food delivery service – their sign-up questionnaire is straightforward, and you can breeze through it in minutes.

In the past, Skye has been fussy with traditional kibble or other dry dog food – but she loved Sundays! Copper was also a fan but that was less of a surprise because he’s more food motivated.

From a dog owner’s perspective, I liked that Sundays For Dogs could be stored away in the cupboard when I’d finish feeding Copper and Skye. As someone used to fresh pet food, it was great to free up space in the fridge and freezer for our food rather than fresh dog food. There was no mess on the countertops or in the fridge from open dog food.

It was also great to make a huge saving but still get to feed fresh dog food to my Alaskan Klee Kai. I pay $184.40 a month to feed Sundays to Copper and Skye, which is a price increase in 2026 from previous years that we’ve reviewed their food.

Who Are The Farmer’s Dog?

The Farmer’s Dog (Photo: Life With Klee Kai)

The Farmer’s Dog supplies fresh dog food to pups in the USA, with their dog food delivery service rivaling other competitors such as Nom Nom, Ollie and Spot & Tango.

Creating dog food that is tailored to meet your dog’s specific needs gives pet parents a chance to ditch dry food, canned food, raw food and homemade dog food.

The Farmer’s Dog uses whole muscle and organ meat to make up the majority of all of their recipes, alongside green vegetables, fiber-rich foods and supplemental nutrients.

Just like Sundays, their recipes have been formulated and approved by veterinarians, so you can feel confident your dog is eating balanced and complete meals.

Akin to most dog food subscription services, you’ll need to fill out their sign-up questionnaire to allow this fresh dog food delivery company to tailor your dog’s meals.

You can then decide which of their fresh food recipes you’d like for your canine companion. At the time of writing, The Farmer’s Dog offers a Beef recipe, Chicken recipe, Pork recipe and Turkey recipe to provide a range of ready-to-serve meals for picky eaters.

If you’re familiar with our social media and website, you’ll probably know that Copper and Skye have eaten fresh meals from Butternut Box for most of the past five years.

When we returned to the USA, we started our search for a new fresh dog food delivery company that offered human-grade dog foods that prioritize a dog’s health. We had an initial shortlist that included The Farmer’s Dog, Nom Nom and Spot & Tango.

There’s no doubt that The Farmer’s Dog offers one of the better dog food delivery services. Of all the brands that we’ve tried, we felt that their dog food looked more like real human food than most – although we felt there were a couple of superior fresh dog food delivery services available.

I appreciated that The Farmer’s Dog labeled Copper and Skye’s individual meal pouches to highlight that my Klee Kai was eating dog food tailored to their weight goals. They use a portion guideline on the front of each meal packet to help dog owners feed the right amount at mealtime.

You’ll need to consider fridge and freezer space to store their human-grade dog food. The Farmer’s Dog uses long rectangular pouches that are relatively easy to stack in your freezer. You only need to keep two or three defrosted meal pouches in the fridge.

However, The Farmer’s Dog is an expensive dog food delivery service – there’s no escaping that fact. But they’re easily the most affordable among fresh dog food brands in the USA. At the time of writing, I paid $194.40 to receive fresh dog food for Copper and Skye each month.
